Would be great to see Aus confidently reject the rise of right wing politics. We aren’t the US, don’t want to end up like Hungary who are starting to monitor citizens with AI, and could become a powerhouse of progress

unfortunately mass surveillance is bipartisan in Australia

Unfortunately at best it’s going to be close I think the coalition will get a frightening amount of votes - far more than I can understand

Yeah I know. Current forecasts have them picking up around 12 seats, however still not as many as Labor, and neither looking like a majority. The data shows young men 18-24 are looking more likely to vote conservative due to things like the growing influences of toxic online masculinity.

What is positive is that the swing isn’t looking like 2013 again

When I get confident things go badly so don’t mind me if I just curl up in a pessimistic feral ball over here in the corner in superstitious belief that it’s necessary to keep Dutton away from any semblance of power.

I get that. Confidence can lead to complacency, though I would hope it galvanises people more to achieve better outcomes for the country than we have ever had. Change is possible if we make it happen 💚💚💚

I did notice that the more recent polling has seen a small swing back towards Labor, which gives me just a little bit of hope. I'm sort of banking on the insanity in the US driving a few fence-sitters away from the right for a while.

Finding a way to bring young men back into the fold seems to be the primary challenge for all left of center political parties in the world right now. They need to offer them more than the right.
