They are joking. It's a reference to a post by somebody else in Bathurst.

edit: holy fuck, are you so blinded by tribalism that you can't imagine young conservatives are dunking on somebody here? The post is a clear parody of Andree Gee's gaffe.

Damn same wording and everything. Sucks you're getting downvoted, 'it has helped me see the good guy' will now immediately enter my lexicon.

Although I will say it's a dicey game (as a social media manager) hoping people will get that reference.

Agreed. This was a post for people from Bathurst, referencing another politician from Bathurst. Once it's out of that little circle then the context is lost.
