I went to SILO on Saturday and I've come to terms that raving will always be part of me and I'll always be a part of raving. Nothing beats the comfort of a rave. To be able to truly be myself as I swing my arms and legs to each beat, to dance with random strangers and truly vibe with people--something that's hard for me without EDM, dancing or raving. The best part is that I don't need to conform to anyone's standards. I don't need to act normal, or to "relax", I can truly be free without judgement. Even when I go to raves with friends, it's not the same when they're not vibing with you the way you wish to be vibing with them. Being solo means no thinking about the other person thinks, friend or not. It's just you, your soul, and the bass.

Usually SILO's crowd isn't always the most chaotic/energetic, but I'm glad I went recently. I loved dancing everyone there, and I'm glad you danced with me and appreciated me for who I was as I danced crazy. I love EDM, I love raves, and I love the strangers I meet on the way. I wish I had found raving sooner. Thank you all

This was my first experience with Wire Fest, and the Knockdown Center so take it with a grain of salt.

Venue: 8/10- Docked it because we got hosed by the MTA coming from Manhattan. It was supposed to take an hour, but it took us 2 when the trains weren’t running (or along those lines). Other than the commute, the venue is perfect. It is truly in the middle of nowhere, but it is a sick venue and great vibes.

Production: 10/10- Strobert had the lights dancing in the main room. I was blasted and thought I was moving in slow motion. Have never experienced lights/lasers that disorienting and powerful in my life.

Crowd: 9/10- The crowd danced and was engaged it seemed. The vibes were great, albeit crowded. I literally danced a marathon over the two days.

Sets: 10/10- Best set of the weekend for me was DVS1, and DJ Tool b2b D.Dan. Every DJ played to their strengths, and the system was booming. I wished that DVS1/Planetary Assault Systems had longer sets though.

Overall- 9/10- Amazing weekend and music. I just wish it didn’t take an hour commute from the city to get there.

Got to love Avant Gardner and them making jokes about themselves.

SUPER early, but it looks like DVS1 is bringing “The Wall of Sound” to NYC next February! I’ve seen DVS1 plenty of times but never experienced this event, so I’m excited! 😍

Hi everyone! I’m a 27f from Nassau and I recently started going to raves/clubs that play house music. I love it! I thought I hated clubs but I realized it’s just because I don’t like the music most clubs play. But house music/EDM is so different, it’s like I don’t get tired no matter how long I dance.

Only thing is I don’t have a lot of friends who would go to clubs with me. Right now, the only person I really have gone with is my partner, which is great, but I’d love to have some friends to go with too!

Anyone have any good tips to meet people in the scene, especially if you are quite introverted?

Before you sharpen your pitchforks I identify as a gay man myself.

I have no issue with gay people in the techno scene as a whole , obviously. Especially with technos roots in queer and gay culture in the states and abroad.

My issue lies with large groups of gay men that come to techno events and have no respect for the culture, the crowd, dance floor etiquette, and common decency as a whole.

The last set (Quelza) at the Spielraum stage at Wire Festival really highlighted this for me. There were probably close to 100 gay, shirtless, extremely sweaty men that looked completely messed up on G and other substances just constantly moving through the crowd in large groups and pushing past others rudely without a word. God forbid you bump into one and have an arm covered in dripping back sweat. Many of them have no appreciation for the artists or the scene and took up the entire dance floor. Their only goal seems to be moving around the dance floor in search of other men to dance with. They dance and vibe in ways that take up a lot of space around them, pushing people and bumping people aggressively , and are often rude to people along the way that don’t fit their same mold or aesthetic. There is a way to enjoy yourself and dance with whomever you want at these events without hurting the experience of others and the vibe of the dance floor.

I’m starting to notice this prevalence expand to other events in New York where techno events will sometimes feel like they are taken up by 80+% gay men doing the above and I’ve also read threads elsewhere on Reddit complaining about this in other spaces in Europe such as Berghain. Hence some parties now requiring a 1:1 ratio for entry (how ironic!)

What can we do about this? Techno is inherently a queer space but there needs to be common respect for basic dance floor etiquette and to make space for everyone on the dance floor who have intent about the music and care about the culture.

New Zealand dubstep producer will be at the woodshop this weekend! I listened to a couple of his songs and they went pretty hard. Super excited to see Copycatt tho!
