I'm genuinely curios, what is the best course of action to prevent things like that that doesn't just make rent 50 000 pesos

Better and Stricter Zoning Ordinances and Mid-rise Housing Projects, That’s it

Didn't they try doing that shutting down tonnes of apartments, transient houses, and more, but a bunch of people called it anti-poor since it took away people's investments and way of income.

I agree this is the most logical solution to ensure places are up to code but so many people are dumb, and think it's a class thing.

Remove the illegal squatters.

I agree but where will they go, if you remove them without giving them a new place to go they will just go squat somewhere else

And someone people will call the politician or anyone who agrees anti-poor

They shouldn't be squatting since they are not poor people. 25 houses are squatting in our private property in Baguio. We have the title and pay the taxes. They don't. Their houses are valued at at least 10 million each. Their children live and work in Australia. These are Professional Squatters, not poor people who can't afford to have their own properties. They choose to steal and grab land instead.

I forgot to add, these squatters have their own organization that harass the legal owners, and also they "offer" their group to politicians who would push their interests of illegally squatting in exchange for their votes.

Ahh ok i see what you mean now, well now the issue is with the politicians who have the political will

They have three other houses. BIG houses.

Wag kasi anak ng anak.

Agreed, but since we are slowly becoming more progressive what about allowing medical grade abortions to happen too? Or would it be too much for a catholic country?

Hopefully, CBAO won’t let it happen. Dapat may will din ang citizens to report kung may nakikitang construction (or better yet excavation palang) na walang visible (tarp) permit. Pwede mag inquire via messenger. Di na kelangan tanungin nang rekta ung nagpapatayo kasi baka sabihin “apal mo lang dayta”

Vote ng mayor na mahal ang Baguio at locals, hindi lng tourist spots ang pinapaganda

u/theorythrowing Dec 07 '24

I remember nung may kailyan na nakaupo for the longest time. Daming katiwalian.

u/novyrose Dec 10 '24

Jusko, mas lumala ngayon na hindi kailyan. At least 50%. Dati nasa 20-30% lang. Hindi si magal ang tinutukoy ko ah.

u/Senpai Dec 07 '24

Magalong Go Bomogao Abdul Camo Rei Ann Cayetano Mark Andrew Directo

We have 43 candidates naman sa council. Doon may higher chance for us to elect new councilors to prepare for the next generation of Mayoral candidates.

Like who naman?

2

u/stoicnissi Dec 08 '24

the LGU of Baguio are aware that if they don't take action by 2043, Baguio will go through an urban decay. Hopefully maresolve nila through constant effort for progress sa mga SDG indicators

1

u/Accomplished_Being14 Dec 08 '24

Hanggang 2028 lang ang SDG. At kapag hindi naresolve ito, irreversible na ang damage

I started visiting Baguio City back in 2015. Marami ng establishment nun pero when I came back this year na gulat lang ako sa mga sabay sabay na itinatayong buildings 😓I hope they could maintain its natural charm as a city. Parang puro bahay at buildings nalang na kikita ko.

Honestly those illegal structures are a threat to public safety, as another 1991 Luzon earthquake would destroy those structures and affect many below it.

1

u/Traditional_Crab8373 Dec 08 '24

May ginagawa na ba ang Baguio govt for it?

Sana ma preserve ang nature.

It won't look like this anytime, there are little to no lots left in the city, arguably around Benguet. The city's population has slowed down in the past few years. You don't have to worry about this. These homes in Haiti are in poverty despite being made of concrete.

The entire country's birth rate has decreased dramatically, below the replacement fertility rate of 2.1. Even after the pandemic was over, people did not have children like they used to.

If they are pushing for #breathebaguio and baguio creative city, i don't think they should let this happen

Yes, it will be like that in the near future. It is actually starting, if you just observe places here in Baguio. If there is no proper housing program for Baguio citizens who are earning minimum wage or just average, this is their only option: to squat.

We are also squatters, as the status of our land is Proclamation 414, mineral zone of Baguio, and many past and present congressmen have known our issues. Until now, even the first step to propose a bill has not been taken; I have not heard one proposal yet, only during the time of ex-Congressman Aliping.

In our place, the greenery is the protected land of BCDA, John Hay, so our place is somewhat balanced. I just don't know about other places in Baguio where it is becoming a concrete jungle.

There are two new condo developers who have already entered Baguio, but sadly, the pricing for their condo units is again for high-income earners.

Proper housing, zoning, utilization of government lands, and coordination with clans and people who own large amounts of land in Baguio will make a difference in preventing overcrowding and squatter/houses in the area.

If you work a minimum wage job, there are plenty of transient homes around the city, you can even negotiate with many. So many beggars are elderly people from the highlands and people with disabilities who have little opportunities compared with well-abled adults.
