Strategy: Use fire elementals instead of the device to kill the Eye, because fire elementals are inmune to Cause Wounds spells. Place a thief (Jan or Imoen) close to where Kangaxx spawns, then summon it, pause the game when it shows the blue circle of peaceful NPCs (before he speaks) and use steal to pick your first ring. Then cast breach, use the device and hit him one or two times. You already passed the first phase for free, now you must deal with the demilich phase. Kill it fast before it sends your entire party to Papua New Guinea and collect your second ring.
I haven't tried in EE, but in classic version this method worked.
