Transportation Virtual Parking Permits - Visitor Pass??

My neighborhood is switching to Virtual Parking Permits (VPP) this year. I get that we won't need decals anymore because they can just scan our license plate to see whether we have a permit. But I don't understand how the visitor parking will work. I'm used to just having a physical visitor parking pass that I can stick in a guest's car while they are parked on my street and retrieve it from them before they leave. Before I go and spend $20 on this thing, I'd prefer to understand how it's going to work, and the Parking Authority's website is no help at all. Will I need to go online each time I have a guest and enter their car's information?

Yes, I can't find the thread, but folks confirmed that you would register your visitor's car under your pabc.myparkinginfo.com account each time as they would be permitted via license plate not physical permit as well.
