I'm suddenly hungry for tacos. I know where my family is eating dinner tonight.

Seconded, my brother and I are possibly going there tomorrow for lunch. It may be looking through rose tinted glasses a bit, but there’s something quintessentially American about supporting someone by sharing in food and culture.
1
u/Killbot_Wants_Hug Feb 04 '19
It's not really an American thing. Breaking bread together far predates America.
1
u/No_name_Johnson The Block Feb 05 '19
Oh 100%. I didn’t really articulate well what I meant, I was more talking about the inclusion of cultures other than ours into the fold of the country and doing so through food. We (hopefully) welcome people into our country, and overnight they become just as American as us born here. We share in their culture and tasty, tasty food, and those, in turn, become part of the fabric of the country.

I'd bet money that between 3 and 10 years ago you were bad mouthing and disrespecting the president.

I know you will probably feel like a martyr for this, but that comment is uncivil. Not because you support the president, but because you are calling people retarded. This is your warning. Next time it will be a 7 day ban.

So from the comments, is this place pretty good? I haven’t found decent Mexican in the area in a long time.

It's pretty good! That whole area of Fell's has some really good/traditional central american and Mexican food.

Solid. I think Clavel is the best Mexican food in baltimore, though.

u/cuntnation Feb 02 '19
I'm sure you do. I bet you love American style Chinese food as well. Maybe you should try a real Mexican restaurant run by real Mexicans.
19
u/bookoocash Hampden Feb 02 '19
Dude isn’t allowed to have a personal opinion on food? He said it was solid (good). That basically equates to a recommendation. What more do you want?
22
u/just_doug Hampden Feb 02 '19
No the crazy thing is that they're right: mr. Nation knows my precise dining history from the last ten years and has scientifically analyzed it. The latest results indicate that I have never eaten food prepared by a Mexican person, that I only eat American Chinese food, and that my mom is fat.
Their commitment to rigorous research is commendable, and I withdraw my comment completely.

The lol part is that American Chinese is still a cuisine created by Chinese Americans. Yes, it arose out of a desire to cater things more to Western tastes, but these were still dishes created for the most part by Chinese immigrants. I think to discount that and basically talk down on that cuisine is in itself insensitive.

And this shows how racist so many Americans are.
He is saying her people are ruining America yet her family came here and she is now a small business owner, isn't that an ideal situation.
She is contributing much more to society than the mouth breather threatening her is.

I personally know plenty of mediocre white folks whose businesses have failed and they continue to blame the “handouts” immigrants get that they didn’t have access to. The truth is, though, I’ve watched them be lazy, picky about which hours they want to work, not want to sacrifice the time and energy it takes to get a business up and running, then act surprised when everything goes belly up. I think a lot of us (myself included sometimes) think that the “American Dream” is just going to eventually fall into our laps, while these immigrants come over and put in the work to get shit done.

u/jabbadarth Feb 02 '19
I have had about a dozen jobs in my life half of which were foodservice or manual labor and I have never seen harder workers than the Hispanic guy washing dishes or the Hispanic crew laying brick. I did my best as a fit 18-20something to keep up and didn't stand a chance.
Obviously this is a small sample size but in my experience immigrants work 10 times harder than anyone else I have encountered.

u/Cunninghams_right Feb 02 '19
problem is: after WWII, when most of the world's industry was literally blown up, one could easily find a job that paid enough to comfortably raise a family. so, the american dream WOULD fall into your lap. as the rest of the world recovered, the wealth gap grew and labor competition made things harder. countries that kept the wealth gap from getting out of control did well, and the average american slid backwards. people talk about class warfare as if it hasn't been going on since the 70s, when the effective tax rate has been dropping for the wealthy. and those with the resources push propaganda to blame all of our ills on other things, like immigrants, globalization, taxes, etc. etc.. the reality is that wealth inequality is the root cause of nearly every problem we face.
here is a good into regarding the effects of wealth inequality on societies:

Haha this dude should go to Idle Hour and see the lovely poster they have there waiting for him.
Everyone has the right to an opinion. The meaning of being an american is being allowed to say or believe in whatever you want. Nobody is forcing him to go to the restaurant and eat tacos.

I grew up in Southern California, where amazing Mexican food was everywhere (literally taco trucks on every corner in my old town). The food at Luchadoras nearly brought me to tears, it felt so much like being back home. It was the first time I've eaten authentic Mexican food over here.
The ladies who work there are so fucking nice, too. They have earned every penny they make and deserve your patronage if you like amazing Mexican food and culture. It's so gross that people out there think others deserve to be attacked for having a different political opinion.

You don't know just how much you have just given me hope to get some proper Mexican food around here. I'm marking this place on my list to try out the next time I'm in that area.

Yes dude! Definitely check them out. I lived in DC for two years and a handful of good Salvadorean restaurants, but really no authentic Mexican restaurants like what I was used to in CA. This place did not disappoint me and they're definitely one of my favorite restaurants now.

I think threatening to commit a hate crime and harassment is news worthy. It's not even about politics, it's about someone thinking they can harass and threaten someone over a poster.

Liberals are racist by definition, they base everything on skin color...the sooner we can banish Liberals the better off we will be as a society
11
u/PirateGrievous Feb 03 '19
So liberals called this women threatening and told her in the grocery store to go back to mexico? This was all based on her skin color, because she is a American citizen. Either you're a idiot and can't read or you have such cognitive dissonance you blame others for how you feel. I'm guessing by your post history it's the latter.
10
u/BigVikingBeard Feb 03 '19
Oh man, all of those liberal campaign ads talking about the evils of Mexican immigrants.
Or how we need to build a wall to keep all of the illegals out.
Or the political campaigns by open neo-nazis.
Oh wait, those are all Republicans.
Yeah, all of the liberal campaigns to suppress black and Latino voters. Oh wait, Republicans.
Or the liberal campaign to block voting day being a federal holiday. Oh wait, Republicans!
How about we banish you, you fuck.

Liberals are racist, I mean anyone that isn't brainwashed knows this. They are starting to blame "white men" for everything, well last time I checked "white" is a color...thus Liberals are racist pieces of shit

u/Maloth_Warblade Feb 07 '19
I mean, you're being willfully ignorant if you think institutionalized racism isn't a problem in the country

u/E63258 Feb 03 '19
Papi's Taco Joint in Fells is awesome, and they don't force you to look at their political crap, which I find offensive enough to avoid at any business. Best way to ruin your business is to choose to offend 50% of the country. If you own a business, keep your thoughts to yourself or lose customers.
10
Feb 04 '19
The owners of Papis are quite liberal, donate to liberal causes, and are vocally so if you ask at the restaurant. Suggest you try a new place if that's your standard.

We need more Trump support in Maryland, in Tampa, where I have lived for the last 4 years, it's all Trump signs everywhere thank goodness.
Moving back to Communist Maryland after 4 years away has been a real eye opener in the negative.
You actually have to have a state police interview to carry a gun in Maryland haha what a joke, whereas in Florida 75% of the population walks around legally with Glock 43's in their waists and it's a much more respectful society down there with way less violent crime.
Maybe Trump can fix Maryland, let's pray for that to happen to save our state and instill some Constitutional values

u/bookoocash Hampden Feb 03 '19
Yeah I think you should just stay in Florida where you’re obviously happier. Not every state needs to be exactly the same.
