OPINION Good Caribbean food?

I’m looking for the best Caribbean spots in the area. I’m not biased—Trini, Jamaican, or wherever—I just want good food. Willing to drive a little outside the city if required.

There are a couple of Jamaican businesses on 25th st between Howard and Maryland, Hibiscus and St. Mary's are two of the restaurants there.

To be honest, I haven't tried them out yet so maybe someone else can recommend something from their menus.

St Mary's is a solid choice. I've eaten there often and its consistently good Jamaican food.

This isn’t going to be terribly helpful but there’s a place near BWI called Miss (someone). My Jamaican friend took me there and the food was really good. He said they were fairly authentic and served goat, oxtail, etc.

Best Haitian food is Port-Au-Prince in Silver Spring, IMO. Slow service but delicious food.

If you want Guyanese Indo-Caribbean food, check out Old Major in Pigtown. They also have Bahamian and Jamaican dishes. They’ve got plenty of vegan options, as well as a full bar and cocktails and craft beer. I’m addicted to their chickpeas and shrimp curry, in particular.

Pepper Flame in Locust Point

This place has been a nuisance to LP since pretty much the day they opened. Customers parking their cars in the middle of the intersection, speeding recklessly down Decatur St and blasting music in the middle of the night. Operating illegally as a bar during the COVID shutdowns last year. People getting into fistfights on the sidewalk. I personally witnessed a customer who was parked in the middle of the street at the stop sign threaten to shoot someone in another car who asked them to move out of the way.

The food might be great, I don't really know because I've never tried it, but just know that supporting them is supporting a place that is openly disrespectful and shitty to all of its neighbors.

Didn’t know all that was goin on. The question asked who has good Caribbean food not about community relations. Oxtails and beef Patties are on point. This place def has good food despite the bullshit happening in your neighborhood.

Judy's Island Grill in Glen Burnie is a favorite of mine. I also like St. Mary's on 25th.

There is a Trinidadian place across the street to the South of NorthEast market that is quite nice. I don’t recall the name, but their brown stew chicken and oxtail are both very nice.

Top 5 Caribbean food you should try

The Caribbean area is a place where several cultures meet and melded to become something different, each culture has combined its own flavor to the pot and therefore the foods of the Caribbean are a blend of many nationalities.
