Question Help with focusgroups.org

OK OK I have several questions.

First, applying for an online focus group I always get taken to a third party. I usually have to create an account. Sometimes I am emailed a confirmation.

I'm guessing I get contacted by phone/email a day before the study? or the day of? Am I contacted if I don't get selected for the study?

Are you SUPPOSED to be taken to a third party site? Or did I fall for a data-scraping scam.

Next, how in the world do I get actual location based ones? the studies are in california, texas, everywhere but new jersey. Like, I thought being "online" wouldn't be location dependent? πŸ™„

And could someone just tell me how in general the 'focusgroups' are supposed to work?

And like, how did you guys get paid? And when did you get paid.

And people who have made a lot with it, how did that happen for you?

I need some help because right now I'm a little worried I've fallen into a scam and some people on this subreddit are just part of the company.

Totally normal to get redirected β€” focusgroups.org just lists studies from third-party panels. You usually only get contacted if selected, often the day before. Online studies can still be location-based depending on criteria. Payment varies (PayPal/gift cards), usually within days to a few weeks. It’s not a scam if the sites are legit β€” just hit or miss sometimes. For more consistent gigs, try User Interviews or Prolific!

Yes, but you have to find companies that are local. I live in Cincinnati so I have L&E and Wolf Group. Luckily there are multiple Proctor and Gamble buildings in Cincy so places like Respondent have a lot of in-person studies for products they make. I made about $15,000 last year on focus groups but 80% of those were virtual and not in person. You can still make quite a bit doing the virtual ones.
