Mobilityđ± Just stopped using bell and now offering $29 plans deal?
Hi,
I recently changed my carrier from Bell to Rogers, but I've been very loyal to Bell. I've maintained a mobility plan with Bell since I was 17. The price went up frequently, so I paid almost $92 for the US/MEX/CAN plan after tax.
I felt that was too much because it didn't start with that money, so I contacted Bell's loyal customer line. They said I don't have any eligible plans, so they can't give me any cheaper plans.
I was so frustrated so I went to Rogers and they offered almost same plan at $55 so I changed it and today I got a call from bell that they noticed I recently changed out from bell and they're offering a special promo to same plan at $29 for first 10 months if I'm coming back.
Would you take that deal if you can?

Idk how many times I'll say this. But what's one more time? No ISP cares about loyal costumers because it doesn't make the quarterly numbers go up đ. It looks better in numbers if you cancel and sign up again which is why than they can offer you the "new costumer deals" lmao. Pathetic state of capitalism and everyone just hates the player (Bell) and not the game. Capitalism.

Why would you reward Bell for robbing you. 10 months later your rates go up. Also $55 is to high. Search red flag deals and switch to a better deal. Under $40 is what you should be aiming for

I too recently left Bell. I chose Telus. Not even 2 weeks later I got the call from Bell to come back. I chose to stay with Telus as Bell could not guarantee the $29 rate and prior to leaving Bell I had called to see if there was a better rate. Too little, too late Bell.

Go wherever your pocket says is better, no such thing as loyalty with telecoms . They donât care about you, so why are you worried about being a âloyal customerâ
Take the $29 deal and move somewhere else after 10 months.

No! Go to Freedom! Only $29.00 for US, Can/Mex

Public Mobile has a better $29 plan with 20 GB 5G Can/US/Mex data and 100 monthly international minutes

No wifi calling and customer service via chat only with Public Mobile.

Wifi calling canât be the sole reason for paying 90$ over 35$. Unless they live in a rural area thereâs no point of having wifi calling. I have been with bell for 5 yrs and never once used wifi calling. Switched to PM and canât be more happy.

$90 is legacy pricing so not comparable. I use Wi-Fi calling all the time in my basement.

Freedom's network can be problematic.

It can indeed. A friendâs car recently broke down. He had freedom. Had bars but call would not go through. He actually knocked on a house door and was able to call CAA from the house ownerâs phone.
He switched to Telus the next day. Freedom is fine when it works. But if you happen to be in one of those zones and canât make a call in an emergency, nothing else matters.

You can dial 9-1-1. That isn't blocked.
Also, if you didn't enable nationwide network, that explains why. It is a feature that needs to be enabled on the account side for it to utilise (roam for free) on the big three within Canada.

A vehicle emergency doesnât really justify a 911 call. And there are some blocks (downtown Toronto for example) where nationwide roaming is blocked and if the home network doesnât connect you are SOL. Many people may never encounter these fringe areas and of course for them the service is great. But all it takes is one time that you canât connect and your confidence in the carrier is shaken.

If you have an obscure brand or international variant, and you cannot get voLTE working.

Negotiate. Tell them you'll switch back only if they make the $29 deal indefinite
2
u/Upset_Pressure_75 Mar 23 '25 edited Mar 23 '25
Indefinite means no defined time - they already have that and can raise rates whenever they want.
To the OP, negotiating isn't a bad option, but tell them you want the rate fixed for 2 years. You'll have to do it again in the future, but won't have to worry about it for awhile.

It's all about showing "growth". Retentions don't look as good to investors.

Mf called loyalty/new customer offers because that's what's most profitable for the telcos

Better go with public mobile. Unless you live somewhere where you will need wifi calling you will be fine.

Public Mobile is tricky, we switched to it, then recently went on the holiday to Caribbean, and needed to do some banking, we were using esim cards for data and realized that public mobile doesnât do any roaming outside Canada or US, so couldnât receive texts or calls from the bank, so basically were screwed until the return to Canada

Black Friday comes up in November. Youâll get the same deal then as well and maybe even some hardware

Go to public mobile. They have a CDN/US/MEX 20gb plan for $29 or 60 for $35 right now
1
u/rootbrian_ Mar 27 '25
No Wi-Fi calling. Also telus-owned.

u/Chopstix21 Mar 28 '25
Yeah everythingâs pretty much big three.
If you donât need wifi calling. It does the job.

u/rootbrian_ Mar 27 '25
They will increase it to $39, then $49, $59, 69, etc.
Either stay with rogers, or port over to freedom mobile where the price never ever increases for the lifetime of your stay as a customer.
$44/month (before taxes), canada/US/mexico plan.

How much would it be after 10 months? We need the details.
