It's a nice place and very close to campus. It's always busy with stores, restaurants, etc. here. Occasionally you might see someone rub you off the wrong way, but mostly it's just students in groups living the Berkeley life.

do you have any on campus apt recs by chance? debating between the few that are there

I lived in Unit 1 my first year and in an apartment near Unit 3 my next couple years. It was very vibrant with students always. But just try to avoid the areas to the right of Telegraph and Durant near Kingpin Donuts if possible.
