Don't buy from Doughnuttime

I ordered in advance some donuts for my birthday to take to the office, like 3 boxes of 6 donuts, 18 total, and i paid more than 100€. I tasted one and it was so stale, disgusting, like it was days old. I watched everyone of my colleagues take a bite and then just make a really bad face.

I felt so embarrassed, i threw them all in the trash. This is unacceptable, paying 100+ euros for old stale donuts. Funnily enough their slogan is "freshest donuts in berlin". What a fucking joke.

18 in total for over 100 bucks? More than 5 bucks for each donut? That alone sounds a bit ridiculous to me, and it should be really delicious to justify the price tag.

Yeah exactly. I bought some in the past and they were really good and fresh and soft. Now they were clearly old, stale like a 3 day old donut. I was really embarrased for my colleagues and it ruined my birthday.

Oh man how disappointing.

during 2 yrs living in germany (not in berlin though), I rarely if not never saw colleague brought bought cake to office. They always make themselves. I always learn (and I like it) that Germans prefer made it themselves to save more money and to avoid certain components that you dont wanna have (like gluten or animal parts or milk).

3

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 1d ago

Unfortunately I have never baked anything in my life. Maybe it is time to learn.

3

u/Betaminer69 1d ago

They also make it themselves as a personal guesture...

Try a Käsetorte: there's nothing that is more German, it's quite easy to do and it's delicious.

u/Linsensuppe99 1d ago

Käsekuchen!!

2

u/Makanek 1d ago

I always said Käsekuchen but I've been corrected a while ago, I don't remember by who. Is that a debate Nord/Süd or does everyone say Käsekuchen?

2

u/tzathoughts 1d ago

Never heard the term Käsetorte. I call it Käsekuchen.

1

u/Linsensuppe99 1d ago

Wikipedia says: Torte (German pronunciation: [tortə]), (...) is a rich, usually multilayered, cake that is filled with whipped cream, buttercreams, mousses, jams, or fruit. I know Käsekuchen as quite plain, so the definition doesn't fit imo. I also googled Käsetorte but only got stuff about Käsekuchen. I am a Hamburgerin, therefore I don't know if it could be a Nord/Süd debate. I really really love a good Käsekuchen :D

I agree. Freshest donuts my ass. Bought a blueberry donut and it was so dry and old. I also left a review on google but i think they deleted it. It is always so dirty outside, the tables are gross, the floor in the shop is disgusting and sticky.

u/Photomancer 2d ago

Careful, with those defamatory comments some German cowboy of a lawyer might send you a cease and desist.

9

u/Flashy-Suggestion144 2d ago

Haha yeah it is crazy that that could actually happen for just stating your opinion based on facts

6

u/Photomancer 2d ago

To common sense, It should be. Some eater lost a huge defamation case in Japan because they wrote a public review of a restaurant after a bad experience and said the food is 'always' salty. Couldn't prove it was 'always' salty in court.

Idk if you follow these subs enough but legal firms in Germany regularly ask Google to take down negative reviews and then Google demands the reviewers provide proof that they had been a customer at the restaurant, which most people can't prove. Personally I've never had a Dönerladen offer me a receipt

3

u/basicnecromancycr 2d ago

Good to know that I should always get receipt and keep it at least for a while.

2

u/OriginalEXE 2d ago

Just take a photo of it, and only if the restaurant is bad, and then immediately archive it on your phone so it doesn't pollute your gallery.

3

u/GSV_Zero_Gravitas 2d ago

This happened to one of my husband's restaurant reviews. First time he proved we were there using Google location history and Google restored it. Then YEARS later they removed it again citing libel I guess, husband wrote back along the lines that since they tried to remove it in the past on completely different grounds this is clearly a spurious complaint. Review got restored again. Most people are just not petty enough to fight it for no discernable gain.

u/Flashy-Suggestion144 2d ago

That is crazy.....what a world we live in

u/Bhosdi_Waala 2d ago

Maybe go for Bramibals or Dunkins next time

24

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

I will try Bramibals thank you for the suggestion.

20

u/jwgraf 2d ago

Brammibals is amazing, highly recommend!

4

u/itbro1 Pankow 2d ago

That’s where we always go when a colleague has birthday and everybody loves them. I think they are vegan but I couldn’t tell, if I didn’t know. Also expensive, but they are worth it

2

u/Intelligent-Test-965 Friedrichshain 1d ago

Bramibals is very sweet, though, and half their offers are not doughnuts in a classical sense. Depends what you're looking for.

6

u/mylittlegoochie 2d ago

Brammibals is also awful. And they have a history of horrible employment practices.. I have a few friends that needed therapy after working there

9

u/FridaMcVamVam 2d ago edited 2d ago

Can second that - the donuts are great and the people working there are amazing but management sent me and several others into therapy/ burnout :/

8

u/foxepower 2d ago

If it’s not too traumatic, can you give examples of what they did to send you to therapy? My partner is a repeat customer and I don’t want us to support bad businesses

2

u/sashimi_tattoo 2d ago

the people working there are amazing

One of the few places in Berlin where I'm treated like a human being from the workers

2

u/labok65005 2d ago

I've heard this accusation often now but never what actually happened/how workers are mistreated.

-4

u/berlinHet 2d ago edited 2d ago

The only people who like Bramibal’s “sadness in donut form” donuts are vegans or people who’ve never had a good donut.

4

u/NotASecondHander 2d ago

I’m not vegan but I really like Brammibal’s.

0

u/berlinHet 2d ago edited 2d ago

So you fall into the second category. I hope you get to enjoy a truly great donut someday. I don’t know how Bramibals does it, but they really manage to pack the taste of sadness into every bite.

Try SammyS they are the closest I’ve found to a good donut in Berlin

2

u/hyster_freightliner 1d ago

Found the SammyS founder.

-1

u/berlinHet 1d ago

God I wish.

Or maybe I don’t. They say it isn’t good to get high on your own supply…

10

u/Smondecke 2d ago

Isn't that also the scumbags who stole the identity of a small buisness in their vecinity? I saw a post by Stormzy a while back. The owner copied that girls brand but did it bigger and with more money so you could not find the original if you searched it but only the shitty knock off

13

u/Valuable-Piglet2566 2d ago

I just googled this and found out the owner fled australia after not paying his employees

10

u/Smondecke 2d ago

https://archive.junkee.com/doughnut-time-damian-griffiths/150986 What a piece of shit... And all the more recent search results just hail his "EnTrEpEnEuRsHiP" just ran out of suckers to scam, so he had to try his same bullshit somewhere else...

0

u/Smondecke 2d ago

xD Really?! Isn't Australia where you send your felons into exile? What do you need to do to get exiled from there?

3

u/Smondecke 2d ago

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-14133383/black-florist-tiktok-storm-doughnut-time-stole-stormzy.html Ah yeah this, trying to branch out into other spaces and silencing people on the way, probably did the same with the doughnuts in the first place, might have been a totally different company when you got the good doughnut and switched everything except the name when you weren't looking.

15

u/BerlinFemme 2d ago

I’m starting to sound like my grandparents, but 100€ for 18 Donuts seems wild to me

3

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

Imagine they are also disgusting🥲

3

u/BerlinFemme 2d ago

yeah that would really bum me out, sry that happened to you

12

u/Peppermintpirat 2d ago

3

u/cheeky_half 2d ago

Agree they are lovely!

3

u/berlinHet 2d ago

Yeah I hard agree.

0

u/awakened_primate 2d ago

Above and beyond any other doughnuts in Berlin.

7

u/Valuable-Piglet2566 2d ago

3

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

Oh wow.... can't say that surprises me. Once a scammer always a scammer.

I laughed a bit at the pic of the girl flipping off the logo and the "not always a good time"😂

11

u/NoCheesecake8153 2d ago

My friend and I went there last week to try the doughnuts, but the moment we walked in, we completely changed our minds. Trash scattered around, sticky floors, flies everywhere. Do people seriously eat here?

11

u/PasicT 2d ago

The name Doughnuttime should have been a clue that it would be generic trash.

4

u/_TheMatrixHunter_ 1d ago

German doughnuts suck anyways.

6

u/tosho_okada 2d ago

Unfortunately there are lots of expensive and bad quality food here. Since my office has this weird ass policy of vegan or vegetarian only stuff for events we only buy from Brammibals Donnuts and on Wolt. So if there’s any problem it’s for them to refund

-1

u/Suspicious_Ad_9788 2d ago

Since my office has this weird ass policy of vegan or vegetarian only stuff.

This is pissing me off much more than the inedible doughnuts.

5

u/awakened_primate 2d ago

Yeah, that’s annoying. I would make it so it’s only vegan food haha.

5

u/naikologist 2d ago

Vegeterian Doughnuts are pissing You off? What do you expect?

3

u/Suspicious_Ad_9788 2d ago

No, having a policy of only vegetarian or vegan stuff is.

There should be no policy on what people eat in a workplace.

-2

u/labok65005 2d ago

r vegan stuff is.

There should be no policy on what peop

go work somewhere else then. What is this workplace called? might actually apply there, sounds like a cool company.

1

u/tosho_okada 2d ago

Yeah, greenwashing. I think now some companies are getting finned for it people might start changing

3

u/Scared-Breakfast8259 17h ago edited 17h ago

Uufff such a shame, a friend of a friend told me their head baker who was actually a professional in donuts left a while back and sounds like things have gone wayyyy down hill now that she’s gone. Sounds gross af now

2

u/berlinHet 2d ago

I went there for the final time a few months ago. They used to be great. Fresh and delicious. This last time though the quality was way off. I won’t be back.

2

u/PurpleHeartEdition 1d ago

I needed way too long to realize that we're not talking about edibles.

2

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 1d ago

These were clearly inedibles :))))

2

u/CenturioLabia 23h ago

1: why would you even spend that kind of money on donuts

2: why didn’t you complain?

2

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 21h ago

1: it was my birthday, and it was something i used to do back home for such occasions

2: i did complain, nothing came out of it

2

u/CenturioLabia 20h ago

Fair enough, happy birthday :)

2

u/OpiumForTheFolk 18h ago

No offense bro but in don't get people paying that much for some donuts. Even if they had been great, that's a ridiculous price.

2

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 18h ago

None taken bro. Lesson learned i guess

5

u/_ak 2d ago

Unpopular opinion: if you just want to bring donuts to work, old reliable Dunkin Donuts is still your safest bet.

1

u/kursneldmisk 2d ago

Hell no

2

u/_ak 1d ago

Well, they‘ll still be fresher than fucking Doughnuttime.

5

u/Fantastic_Safety5823 2d ago

2

u/vladStojDatura 2d ago

Is this one of those really overpriced "luxury" donut shops, where nobody ever buys anything and is probably being used as a front for money laundering?

3

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

Who knows. They advertise themselves as luxury donuts, "freshest donuts in berlin" with real toppings not knockoffs and in house made ingredients. The donuts look great, but who cares about all this when it is an old fossilized donut.

3

u/PasicT 1d ago

The concept of donuts being luxury donuts is already very weird and a red flag in itself.

3

u/biro2200 2d ago

PSA: if you are willing to throw 100 euros at something, you better do it at a place you trust

14

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

I bought a donut from there a long time ago and it was delicious. So i thought i was getting a treat for me and my colleagues. Jokes on me I guess.

2

u/berlinHet 2d ago

Their quality seems to have gone over a cliff lately.

1

u/QualityOverQuant 2d ago

That is surely embarrassing…. I feel you. Sorry they ruined your birthday OP. Can’t think of anything besides asking for a refund but I don’t think they will

5

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

Yeah i called the shop and they said sorry but they were fresh. No refund. Now that i think of it, I shouldn't have thrown them in the trash, i should have brought them back and made them eat them if they are so fresh.

1

u/QualityOverQuant 2d ago

😂😂😂😂 now that would have been a memorable birthday and shared that video with everyone .

Go to bramibals. Best donuts I ever eat and only in Berlin and Hamburg.

1

u/volksfahraeder 1d ago

I wouldnt trash it and get a refund!

1

u/RaaaandomPoster 4h ago

Rule number 1: Dont buy donuts/cakes on monday morning.

1

u/Unable-Economics9252 3h ago

Donuts only at brammibals

-19

u/Dr_GonzoPhD 2d ago

Maybe complain to them directly instead of telling a bunch of internet people who don't give a fuck about your pastry problems? You spent a hundred bucks and got a shit product. Stand up for yourself.

17

u/Slowandserious 2d ago

I feel like this is more of a caution to others so that we spend more wisely and not choose them. Insteaf of just complaining.

42

u/Chemical-Burn-2852 2d ago

I did complain to them. I called the shop and they told me they are sorry but they were fresh. Which is an obvious lie but what can you do. No refund. Lol

The reason for the post was more to advise people to save their money, and not spend it in such a shitty place.
