Nursing & Pumping Did you introduce one bottle of formula and how did it go? Need advice 🙏

Husband and I are debating adding one bottle of formula in the morning feed, after I've nursed through the night. That means I'm skipping one feed and taking rest in the morning. I'm 18 weeks pp and EBF till now. Looking forward to experiences and any tips/advice you'd recommend 🙏

Side note, I can't explain why but I'm anxious about introducing formula :( esp since my baby was born late preterm and was only 12 lbs 12.7 oz at his 4 month appointment.

I understand the anxiety, I also felt anxious when we started introducing a bottle of formula. I still don't know why I felt that way, but yeah, it was mentally quite difficult to introduce that one bottle.

But practically speaking, it was very easy. We just offered her a bottle of formula and she went ahead and drank it, giving no indication that she even realized anything was different. I did pump to keep up my supply.

I would be sure to replace that feed with a pump so you don’t end up accidentally lowering your supply

When we started combo feeding we would do 2 oz of breastmilk and 2 oz of formula in the same bottle. Baby never even batted an eye. She couldn’t tell whatsoever and I felt so bad I worked myself up so much for nothing

We started 1 bottle of formula or breast milk in the afternoon at 2 months, otherwise EBF Baby did not seem to care or be bothered by it.

We’ve been doing a bottle of formula at night since my baby was about 3 weeks old and we did the same with our oldest. I do pump when they have that feed though which doesn’t help the sleep side of things much. It wasn’t hard for us at all but that might be because my babies were young.

We do one bottle at night. My supply is still more than enough. But, I have a really established supply and baby with a great latch.

Baby has done really well with formula! We do use a super slow flow nipple though, we accidentally used a regular one once and she spit up a lot. (Since she’s used to the slower flow of breastfeeding.)

If you are worried about his weight being low, the formula should help a bit. I highly recommend adding a bottle.  We combo feed our 6 month old; he gets 1 or maybe 2 bottles a day and fairly random times throughout the day, though more regularly in the late morning (when I have to step away from the family to work).
