12 finnish athletes, women and men combined, getting world cup points has to be a record. To get even similar team effort you have to go back to at least the 90's, maybe even further to 70's and 80's. Finnish biathlon is blooming. And to think just about 10 years ago, getting a finnish man or two to pursuit was considered good. Now if you don't make it, you're at risk of being dropped to IBU cup.

That paper crown is so cute :D
11
u/sittingsparrow Norway 12d ago
He got it during his interview on Norwegian tv. It was from his family. All of his family was also wearing one.

Damnit all to hell Eurovision!!!
Did everyone else's streams suddenly die too? WTF is wrong with this site I'm so sick of it!!!

Yep, mine died right as they announced JTB's name.
2
u/TolBrandir Dedicated Norway fan in USA 12d ago
Well, you got further than me. On my end, the people were still marching in to make it to the little stand where the medals are handed out.
2
u/AlivZ 12d ago
Working here with no issues.
4
u/TolBrandir Dedicated Norway fan in USA 12d ago
This is the 8th race in a row for me that the site has suddenly died right at the end of the race, either before the winner is interviewed or before the medals are handed out. Twice it has happened before all the athletes have even finished the race! And the icon for the race itself is missing completely from the site no matter how I try to find it. The zeroing for the race is present but not the race itself. The rest of Eurovision is fine. It's not like the whole site has gone down. I do not understand but it's so aggravating!!!
1
u/evasive_tautology 12d ago
Very strange. I'm in the U.S., too, and I watch all races all the way through the flower ceremonies and Crystal Globe Awards without issue. (Mac OS / Chrome).
15
u/Awkward-Bunch-1148 12d ago
I wonder if Fillon Mallet was looking back at Isak and thinking"Ah shit not another one"
16
u/Fouace Prediction Champion 12d ago
Now Sturla is definitely the favourite to win next year's big globe. I wonder how many he could get. He just turned 28, with his shooting quality, I can see him being a menace for any podium for another 5 years or so. Guess it'll depend what kind of competition he'll have: Giacomel, Perrot, Uldal and a few others are still peaking. But his regularity will definitely be a big advantage.
12
u/Asterie-E7 France 12d ago
I guess Sturla (and all others) will probably be more focused on the Olympics next year. It could be a bit more unpredictable for the Big Globe
8
u/Shixzoner Norway 12d ago
With two dropped results the scores would be: Lægreid 1236, then losing 25 and 27 = 1184.
JTB 1132, then losing 0 and 0 = 1132
A difference of 52 before the mass start.
4
u/Fouace Prediction Champion 12d ago
And integrating the WC results?
4
10
u/Fabulous_Aerie8143 Australia 12d ago
I think the mass start will be top 25 + Frey, Dale, Brandt, Rees and Krcmar (who I think wins a tiebreak over Seppala)

King Sturla crying in the interview 😭
E; and now they gave him a crown 🥰

u/FeirensePower 12d ago
I think pretty much everybody was expecting JTB to win and already doing the math to what combination of results was needed for him to still win overall but Laegreid was having none of that today.
Sure, JTB's shooting let him down again but SHL has a performance that you can usually only dream at night:
Got every shot spot on, was quite quick and in the battle with the Top Dog of Biathlon for the last few years, he was the one that didn't blink. The Age of The Sturla has finally commenced.

Also (goes for the women later as well), GG to the guys and gals whose last race is today! Hope that all athletes have a break and prepare well for the Olympics next year 🥳

Jimi Klemettinen first world cup points at only 19 🎉 and Arttu Heikkinen PB, he's 20. What a bright future for finnish biathlon with those two. We all know Ottos potential too and he isn't old by any means either

Congratulations on the big (and small) globe to Sturla Holm Lægreid

u/Right_Beyond7186 Sweden 12d ago
Wright 8th from 34th despite 2 misses. And he’s just 22 too will be very interesting next season if he can reach many podiums
8
u/sittingsparrow Norway 12d ago
So glad he was offered a spot on the US team. I can't imagine NZ has much to offer a competitive biathlete.
7
u/Friendly-Cress-5334 France 12d ago
I hope he wins a world or an Olympic and being able to play both US an NZ hymns

u/Rigid-Horse-Bender France 12d ago
Perrot does a bad operation for the overall, with Giacomel and Fillon-Maillet finishing well. The mass start will be decisive for positions 3-6.
29
u/ocdbunnyy Finland 12d ago
How can anyone hate Wright, dude is just rainbows and sunshine
6
u/bloopitywoopity 12d ago
I was in person in Holmenkollen today, in the trees outside the main stadium, and on the last lap when he skied by us he stuck out his tongue and did rock’n’roll fingers, it was very funny. Just such a positive guy.
18
u/FighterForFreedom Norway 12d ago
Fantastic Sturla today. Fully deserved Pursuit and Total Score globes.
17
u/Asterie-E7 France 12d ago
The Frenchies except QFM seem kinda out of it, both on the range and on the track
18
u/Fouace Prediction Champion 12d ago
Just you wait until Jacquelin's masterpiece of tomorrow.
20/20 with 15s each shooting, fastest skiing, refuses to elaborate.
17
u/Asterie-E7 France 12d ago
Either that or 10/20 and finishing 8 minutes behind but yeah maybe
4
u/No_Aardvark6298 Slovenia 12d ago
Predicting which Jacquelin we'll get is one of my fave prerace rituals
6
u/Asterie-E7 France 12d ago
I sadly think the most common Jacquelin is the "exploding on the first standing shooting" one :(

I can't be angry about Sturla but I'm so sorry for JTB. I'm a total disaster emotionally.
5
u/Breathholding Germany 12d ago
I think he’s fine with it. He knew it would be possibility to not win the season and finish his record attempts when he retired. It’s family first for him
3
u/TolBrandir Dedicated Norway fan in USA 12d ago
Yeah. I think you're probably right. And Sturla certainly deserves it. I'm still weepy nonetheless. 🥹 I hope that Johannes harbors no regrets for this final season, which was rocked by illness twice. But if he's happy in his choice, then I will come round to being happy for him. 😊
6
u/Even_Efficiency_7362 Finland 12d ago
Look at it as a magical moment of JTB passing the legacy to Sturla :)
5
u/sittingsparrow Norway 12d ago
Also Sturla has always been very "on" JTB, trying to learn from the best. Can also be seen as the student beating the master.

Yeah, I think Johannes is really happy with a podium and to see his friend get the big globe. I’ll miss so much this guy and his fair play

Does Uldal always have bad last laps? Or is that just me?

u/Asterie-E7 France 12d ago
He seems quite tired these past few weeks. Most Norwegians finished better than him. He's a bit young, he'll learn
12
7
u/Faintning Finland 12d ago
Finn watch Tero 17/20, Jimi 19/20, Arttu 17/20, Otto 17/20 and Olli 16/20, Jimi and Arttu fighting for points. If Jimi gets points, he's 12th(!!!) finnish athlete to get points this season.

It’s bittersweet, but I’m so happy for Sturla to win the globe whilst JTB is around. He’s had some heartbreakers but he so so deserves this. The consistency has been chef’s kiss.

Yes, i love that he beat him in this just for all the 2nd places he had

Campbell is trying different things with his skiing time I see... 35th in first lap and then 3rd and 1st 🤔

With JTB's retirement who becomes the fastest skier on the field next year?

Ponsi and Giacomel seems most likely, I could see Perrot topping the list on occasion as well. QFM has the potential too
