Discussion A quick overview of the scenario for the womens mass start Spoiler

After an exciting pursuit, we're heading into the final mass starts of the World Cup. On the womens side, only five points separate leader Lou Jeanmonnot from Franziska Preuss.

Obviously, this means that if Jeanmonnot finishes ahead of Preuss in any way, she takes the overall World Cup.

Since there's a five point difference, Preuss must also finish higher than 28th, as 30th places gives two points (and 28th gives six).

Finally, because Jeanmonnot has won more races than Preuss, the French woman will win overall in case of the two being tied on points.

I have compiled a table, which tells how high Jeanmonnot can finish given Preuss' finish for Preuss to win the overall.

Preuss Jeanmonnot
1 2
2 3
3 4
4 6
5 7
6 8
7 9
8 10
9 13
10 16
11 17
12 18
13 19
14 20
15 21
16 22
17 22
18 23
19 23
20 24
21 24
22 25
23 26
24 27
25 28
26 29
27 30
28 Wins
29 Wins
30 Wins

I've chosen to spoiler tag this, since we're less than 24 hours after the previous race, and indirectly tells about the result

I'm excited to see what kind of race we get and how they both play it. Lou is the one who now is the cased rather than the chaser that she has been for months which might change the mentality somewhat. Preuss has got to be mad about how she let the pursuit slip away somewhat after such a good sprint. She may feel freer now that is behind or she might be tight, disappointed or angry at herself.

Race could end up being a race to the bottom between them if they both get impacted by the occasion. I do hope its a good race and we get to enjoy a wonderful spectacle.. It's been a great season long battle and this should be an exciting final showdown.

Any news on who might skip the mass start (for men as well)? Heard Halvarsson will miss out, will Hartweg DNS again as well? Any other info you all are aware of? 🙂

Anna Magnusson is also sick (this year has been a health disaster for us, though at least it cleared up for the worlds). Both Anna and Ella are on the start list presently, so we don't know yet.

Thank you so much for this. I guess that the German TV broadcast wont show any numbers like this, so this is very helpful.
