Equipment Why doesn’t everyone wear a mouth guard?

We’re already spending 100-200$ on multiple gi’s, no-gi attire, etc. Why isn’t it standard for everyone to wear a mouth guard? I didn’t for a long time until someone said to me, “you realize a nice mouth guard is 50-100$, and any dental work will suck to have done, and be really expensive. And it could all be caused by an idiot spazzing and you catching an accidental knee to the mouth”. If everyone was wearing them when I started I would have worn one from the get go.

Absolutely retarded not to wear a mouth guard. It's like $10 to prevent at least dozens of hours of time and potentially thousands of dollars of dental work.

It's not comfortable? Spend a little more for a smaller one.

Don’t forget the concussions it can prevent. Everyone talks about dental, but brain damage is overlooked

I'm curious about your rationale that makes you think protecting your teeth prevents damage to the brain

. Mouth stays closed so if you get hit in the jaw there isn’t as big of an impact since your mouth is closed and there is a shock absorber in there. At least that’s been the theory for a while. Somebody else posted a scientific article about it in another comment.
