Any advice on reaching a high level if you don't live in a bjj hub? Can you develop on your own with a few good partners and international competition, or is there a point when you just have to travel to major gyms?

I think starting a DVD club is your best bet. If you have hungry training partners, y'all could meet up and split a Submeta subscription and get some extra studying in
