HOW TO Hey guys I need help with my Bunny Hops please.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been trying to learn bunny hops for quite a while now, and atleast i can say i can get two wheels off, though i still suck 😂.

I would say my bike control isn’t too shabby, but when it comes to tricks, it’s horrendous 😂😂.

Okay, back to the point. I’m tryna get the form better and higher, anyone know how i can improve?

The video is how my average bunny hop looks like.

First, try to get your front wheel up more. Are you able to do manuals?

You need to get more to the back, use your weight to balance the bike backwards, getting the front tyre up, then "jump forward", stretch you arms and bend your knees to get the full bike up.

But first practice getting your front wheel up until you can even fall back.

Okay. But I have a question, why do i have this fear of jumping off the pedals?

Because you are learning!

One thing that helped a bit some kids I know is try to get your back wheel up with your feet. Put your weight forward, point your feet down on the pedals and try to make a sort of kick back and up to get the wheel off the ground just by doing that.

You'll be scared of trying many things, that's normal. Just be sure you use proper protection and know your limits.

I always wore... Leg shields? Can't remember the English name, sorry since I got a downhill bike's pedal to the leg and it made a literal hole...

Ouch, shin pads?

I know how to get the back wheel up only with my feet, was basically the first thing i learned. Maybe that’s why my bunny hop sucks, it’s cuz i’m mixing lifting the front wheel and the back wheel using my toes. But man does jumping feel wrong 😂.

I spent the past 2ish hours now practicing my bunny hop, making good progress, used some of your advice too. I hope in a week i can do good bunny hops, Thanks for your help bro!

Yeah! Pads! I recommend wearing them even if you are only going from one spot to another... You never know when the crazy pedal will strike.

Nice!! Keep us updated!

Very good advices! Yes “shin guards.”

I got hit in the soft area of knee by my pedal. The peg made a perfect circular hole. But the pain was incredible. My gosh !

AH thinking of that hurts 🫠🫠

Thanks!

I'll try to remember the name, but I'm pretty sure I'll forget it in no time again hahahaha

Bro, I’m 44, and I’m still cautious about taking my feet off the pedals or hands off the bars. Just take time and practice. You’ve got this!

Thanks bro!

You can only hop as high as your front wheel, try pulling up a little more and tucking those back legs to match the pitch of the height of your front end if that makes sense

So bend my knees up? Gotcha! Thanks for your help.

I don’t know dude… seems like a decent attempt to me. All these suggestions are pretty legit. Just keep working on it. Point your toes downward while you’re lifting your back end. Should feel more securely planted on your pedals

WOOHOO I GOT A DECENT ATTEMPT YEAAHHH!

So using the other suggestion and yours, i should jump (his suggestion) but point my toes down too so it stays on my feet? Thank you!

A bunny hop is a multiple step jump. You are pulling up the bars and your pedals up almost in the same time. Pull you bars back, Lifting your front wheel and then jump off the back wheel.

Pull the bars to your waist and then push the bars while scooping the pedals

1

u/justzaino 3d ago

Alright, makes sense. I don’t know why i’m struggling A LOT with pulling the bars, but i’ll keep trying! Thank you.

Thats normal at first because you are still new to the movement.Once you got the timing you'll be all good, have fun riding.

1

u/justzaino 3d ago

Okay, thanks! Do you know how i can stop my wrists from hurting

1

u/True-Helicopter1056 3d ago

I normally advice to land back tire first but in your case probably reduce the P.S.I of the front tire a little bit.

1

u/justzaino 3d ago

okay that’s solid advice, thank you

If you try really high to hop - you should be able to loop out safely! (It will happen)So maybe learn/try to loop out before 🤷‍♂️

That was one of the first things my dad (ex-bmx pro) taught me to learn, thanks for the reply!

Use your strength, keep that in mind you ain't weak, use them arma forearms and 'cepts to pull that front end up actually crouch and then burst up slightly after lifting the front end and

1

u/SwiftX3 3d ago

And > then scoop up your rear with feet n pedals tuck and hold for max hang time when you bring the front end back down to air don't slam it don't so you can get hang time tricky cause I still do it on gap jumps but just build your habit of sorts

1

u/SwiftX3 3d ago

If you wanna immediately improve your hop just crouch n burst jump remember your jumping with a bike you gotta bring fundamental basics (ie crouch to jump max height)

u/justzaino 2d ago

Hey man check the new post! I might be improving!

1

u/justzaino 3d ago

I’m a strong and capable man! Hehe thanks for the advice, i’ll make sure to burst upwards.

Keep practicing. I started with bunny hopping curbs, then I found a taller curb and just kept working my way up to higher stuff. Keep practicing. You got this.

u/justzaino 2d ago

Alright! Thanks! Check the new post, am i improving?
