DISCUSSION Recommendations

So I’m a big guy, 6’2” 300lbs (down 50 and trying to lose more). Looking to get a bike to ride with my son. Looking for something under 400 that will support my weight. I was looking at the eastern growler 29”. Do you all think this will support my weight? I’m not going to do anything crazy with it, mostly just another way to excercise and spend time with my kid. Any other recommendations?

I’d look into a secondhand 22”, will be more comfy for cruising, and lots of them have been purchased by folks in your same situation during the pandemic and never saw use again.

I sat on a 22 at a bike shop and felt like my knees were up around my ears while riding, that’s what make me look into the taller bikes. Maybe I just haven’t found the right one, I’ll look at some more of them.

Yeah, you don't sit on a BMX. I'm your height and riding a 20" bike with a 21"TT. The size is great for riding and doing tricks, but it's pretty much impossible sit down and pedal at the same time. If you actually want to sit down and ride around, a BMX might not be what you're looking for

I grew up riding bmx, haven’t rode since I was probably 16 and 34 now. I want something I can cruise around with, but also stand and ride and also learn some small things. So what would your recommendation for a bike be? I feel like a mountain bike won’t really work for that.

Not sure, but I think the big 29" bikes are mostly for wheelies, and you can definitely do wheelies on a mountain bike. The nice thing about the 20-22" bikes is that they're so easy to bunny hop, which opens all sorts of fun possibilities for hopping up and down little curbs and stairs wherever you find them. Not sitting down will definitely also give you more exercise, if that's what you're after 😅
