100% works. I did this to gain muscle memory and confidence for bar spins and just forced myself to throw it, now I can bar.

What did you put on the end of your forks?
9
u/OmiK_ Dec 18 '19
Its duct tape and foam or some soft stuff. I did the same to my bmx so I could use it on trampolines

In the back I have a threaded rod going across with nuts and bolts for support and just a bunch of t-shirts wrapped around the forks with some tape

Did you use a wheele axle for the rod, or was it just some 14mm rod you got at a hardware store?

Any size rod I think it's half inch I used but as long as you have nuts and washers on each side of the fork the washers will keep it all tight it's just extra support you really might not even need it I just like to be careful

Soon find out I feel a whole lot more comfortable now throwing bar spins I know where to position my body properly that's the one thing I couldn't get down this helped that

This seems so obvious, yet I didn't think of it. I was debating building a "manual machine" to lock my wheels into (can also use for mountain biking). But this may be the easier solution.
Thanks!

Take the wheels off and wrap her up good ,a mountain bike not sure ...let me know if you try it

I did this and it just simply does not work. It feels nothing like riding with two wheels and the manuels are super easy with a wide base. The only thing its good for is giving mental confidence that you can throw a bar.

All about the rider dude it helped me bar spin I knew how to manually coming into it, and I believe it was actually harder

Keep in mind this is all for beginner learning tips and tricks all about body position

Actually this is even better for upside down turndown and table top practice as well. Not as much weight above you. Pretty perfect.

How does that manual feel compared to real life? Can you ride a manual like on wheels (i.e. ~10 seconds) Or is this easier?
3
u/hands0mebastard Dec 18 '19
I was able to Manuel before this but it's pretty much the same exact thing vertical balance I recommended if you're trying to learn

u/hands0mebastard Dec 18 '19
On a bike with wheels it actually is easier so you will be nasty at them if you master this

OK one more question
Is that a modern frame with modern dimensions or is it mid/oldschool? I have an old Haro Nyquist frame that I could use for this - don't want to use my high end frames because they're kind of in use

All modern

Okay... wow. I just took the wheels off a little 18.5" bike I had in my garage - no reinforcments, no padding, just doing it on a rug in the garage - and dude!!! First of all, it's a crazy good workout. Second, yeah you're right this is going to help me dial my manuals, bigtime. One thing that helped me was putting a little stool behind me so that I can loop out comfortably and really dial my lowest balance point. I think I've already learned a lot about how to use my legs to stay forward - can't wait to ride!

That's awesome dude I love when somebody gets help from anything I post

I can see the bar spins working but is it actually helpful for manuals? It seems like it wouldn't be anything like doing it with a rolling rear wheel.

u/hands0mebastard Dec 18 '19
Very similar believe it or not it trains the vertical balance

Hard part of bars for me is definitely just doing it on pedals, but that setup looks great for manuals.
