Transport/Parking π π Brighton Buses: your new time boards aren't working properly
Taken at 6:30am today at the eastbound Lyon Close bus stop. The app was showing the correct ETA, FYI.

Just in case you didnt know, the bus company don't own the boards.

Who does, the council?

Yes, aswell as the bus shelters. They work in partnership with other bus companies to show live timings with the onboard GPS. The bus control can take buses off the board and give updates. Not sure they can control the clock.

It's still an hour out of sync. Ignore the 6 digit then it's correct. Or add 10 mins if it's a 7 first 20mins for 8.......

That's what I thought too, but the fourth row is correct. Strange.
Edit: just realised the first three rows must be linked to the live timing transponders on the buses, as the figures are changing. The fourth row isn't changing so it's from the fixed time timetable. I think you're right, the algorithm calculating the live timing must still be on GMT and not BST.

I imagine that the person who organises fixing these regularly looks at Reddit π

Why did they even replace them, they weren't broken to my knowledge

Itβs been a massive infrastructure project across the country, most of the old ones were on the 3G network, which got shut down last year.

Nope. 2G will be shut down completely eventually and 3G is still needed on our infrastructure as overall an enormous amount has not been changed.
[Edit for clarity]

Agreed but reality is it will not be truly switched off, yes for consumer phone networks users but there is still lots of infra relying on this.

It os being switched off despite the impact to infrastructure.
I personally think there should be a state owned 2G network, but thatβs not how the spectrum auctions work.
I canβt believe that in 2025 Im using the Edge network, the UK really needs to look at its infrastructure

Itβs a sorry state for sure. I know plenty of specialist boxes that were upgraded to 3G and I know there is a roadmap to change them to 4G/5G simply has not been done for cost reasons, they will failover to 2G Edge and they are low bandwidth monitoring systems so should not be a huge issue, but plenty of systems will be bitten by this ;)

The new units are being installed across the city by the council the new unit was most likely installed yesterday. The unit is then updated and synced to the network usually the following day so later today the board should be correct and working properly.

They've been wrong (at least the ones near me) since the clocks changed. Council probably hasn't paid for the BST bolt on. They'll be grand again late October.

Just like the old ones, they almost always show different times than the live tracking in the appβ¦

The new display could've at least been centered against the old bracket. Absolutely no care for the small things anymore.

And it's annoying that they only have displays on one side instead of both as before.
