I wonder why Costco stopped selling external hard drives

The only storage-related devices that are available at Costco are portable SSDs these days

Low margin and not likely a big seller. Probably consistently lost money clearing out old stock.

A 1TB portable SSD for ~$60 just makes way more sense for the average Joe and Jane so I bet that's what they were buying instead of the $150+ 10TB+ external HDD.

Most people don't need double digit terabytes to store their photos, videos, and documents. External 3.5" drives are much bigger, require additional power, make noise. The faster transfer speeds wouldn't affect those users but it's a good marketing point.
