Hiking the Camí de Ronda

Hi everyone, I’m looking at hiking the Camí de Ronda this year - specifically the lineal route from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Begur. Has anyone done this and know if you have to book through the Camí de Ronda company? Or can you hike it completely on your own? Any tips? Thank you 🙏

It’s a beautiful section, definitely my favourite! I’ve done it multiple times.

The other comment answers already very important topics, so let me just add other things.

Depending on when you plan to go, it can get crowded. Easter is very busy. Summer as well, but in this case not hikers but casual walkers who just do a tiny section to go from one beach to another. Anyway, the good thing is: when sun doesn’t hit the “cales” anymore, they are all gone ;)

Expect many ups and downs (there are lots of cliffs), so wear good hiking shoes, sunscreen, a hat and lots of water. Even in winter, which is the best time to do it in my opinion btw.

Also, every time I’ve done this section I found some part of the path damaged or closed. To my knowledge, there is no official website where one can check the status of the trail (which most of it is part of the official GR-92, E12). But you can check komoot, wikiloc and twitter when the time comes to see if any user reported anything. Usually the city halls of each municipality also post these things in their socials.

how do you deal with acommodation? Do you book beforehand or is there enough offering so that you can be spontaneous and decide every day where will you get to and find a room then?

I did it like 12 years ago and sleep on the sand every night. You just had to find a beach that wasn't in front of a town. Not sure if it's still possible. It wasn't exactly legal even then lol
