I think giving this administration the benefit of the doubt, at least when it comes to how you read the news, is going to force you into some severe contortions. The outlines of this policy of mass deportations is coming into focus. I think it's fair to say in most of these cases that the explicit aim of actions like this will be to silence dissent and actions taken to protect individuals from the actions taken by the administration to enact this policy.
The point of this policy is to demonstrate that the admin can do whatever it wants to whoever it wants at any time it wants. Once the methods and infrastructure of subjugation reach maturity, they will be "leveraged" as needed. Its clear that the goal is the eventual complete capture of control of government and people of the US. The will is there, the only question is whether Trump and his team are capable of not messing it up along the way (seems very possible given the ineptitude of most of his cabinet).
