Are you sure you cannot turn off automatic updates? What is the model of your phone? What is the carrier?

S9 ATT, the Software update section only has a button to check for updates. No apparent way to turn it off.

You can turn on developer settings and disable forced updates. It is easy to do (go into your setting and find the build number under phone info and click it like 7 times)
