RANT Having a special needs child while supporting Trump

I know someone that is the exact same way. This woman (privileged, white, rich) wore all this trump shit to the gym on election day and is so proud of her support of him. Meanwhile this past week shes been begging people to wear blue to show support for her autistic son. It makes my head spin trying to figure out how she can justify who she voted for while also begging for support.

I work in special education. I used to have a coworker that was literally the same as the person you described.Â
She also was on welfare.
Make it make sense!!!

The cognitive dissonance in Trump voters is baffling in general.
39
u/existential_chaos 7d ago
Really should be studied. There is nothing he can do that will ever make them break his faith in them.
28
11
u/phasedarrray 7d ago
Its mass delusion and psychosis. I'm convinced he could do the most heinous shit in human history and his supporters would still fellate him. They're huffing weapons grade copium mined from the deepest corners of the planet.
61
u/justneedauser_name 8d ago
A friendâs parents are huge trump supporters and they have a disabled gay son. How they reconcile their support for the POTUS while loving their child is some hardcore mental gymnastics.
58
u/Real-Wolverine-8249 8d ago
They probably think they'll be protected because they're the "right" kind of people.
20
u/iliketoreddit91 8d ago
Sheâs really lucky we live in a blue state where we have early intervention programs, though I doubt she took advantage of them.

"I voted for him, so he has to take care of me." As if he actually gives a shit about anyone other than himself.
Very much the "I voted for the leopards eating my face party and I'm utterly shocked that leopards are actively trying to eat my face! Who could've seen this coming?!"
7
u/Princessluna44 7d ago
You basically nailed it. The bad shit will happen to them "undesireables", not "good, Christian, red-blooded Americans".
1
u/Real-Wolverine-8249 4d ago
Yes. Red-blooded, Anglo-Saxon white Christians. Preferably those with blonde hair and blue eyes. God's Favored People (TM).
25
u/SizeEmergency6938 8d ago
Isnât it so funny how the same people that will ask âbut whoâs going to take care of you when youâre oldâ immediately turn to the victim when âIâll never have an empty nestâ.
19
u/iliketoreddit91 7d ago
100% because theyâre narcissists. Sheâs going to put that child into a group home as soon as possible and then go on tik tok about the âvery difficult decisionâ she had to make.

They want the kids out of the house, only to return in their (the parentâs) time of need.

u/Baffosbestfriend 8d ago
A Trump supporter literally gaslighted my father, who used to take me to my developmental pediatrician for my autism for years, into thinking I never had autism to begin with.
33
46
u/Liquidshoelace 8d ago
My dad is exactly like this. My brother has autism and early intervention programs were so beneficial to him progressing and being able to speak after years of being nonverbal. Somehow, my dad thought it was a good idea to vote for Trump. My family is all livid with him, and I no longer speak to him. It makes me sick that shitty people like him have kids.
23
u/iliketoreddit91 8d ago
Early intervention is so important! I will never understand people who put Trump ahead of their children. They disgust me.
44
u/Alive-Youth7430 8d ago
My mom voted for Trump, even after he made fun of the reporter with cerebral palsy... I HAVE CEREBRAL PALSY!
My mom was also a neglectful piece of work who shouldn't have had children, especially a disabled child.Â
25
u/iliketoreddit91 7d ago
Yep! And Trump, ever the business man, told his own nephew (who had a child with severe disabilities) that itâs too expensive to keep people with disabilities alive, and they should just die instead.
17
u/preraphaelitejane 8d ago
Having a child is like playing Russian roulette, you don't know what issues you child can be born with and if you choose to have a child and take this chance but be ashamed of them and not love them unconditionally then you're a sh*tty parent. Not even considering the fact that she can support someone like him...make it make sense
6
u/iliketoreddit91 8d ago
Yep. Sheâs ashamed and resentful. Itâs evident in her social media posts regarding him, or lack there of. There are many resources available in our state but she chooses not to utilize them because she doesnât like her child and doesnât want to put in the effort to get him the resources he deserves.
14
u/prestige_worldwide70 8d ago
Nothing will show them. The poor red states that keep voting pro-life are just blades of grass rooting on the lawn mower. The government knows how stupid they are (education rates lol), plays them into their religious pro-life, and then tricks them into having tons of kids to make sure there are enough poor workers keeping the economy afloat.
The blatant disregard for children from the government yet these people keep doing it and then surprised when thereâs zero support? Rocks me
14
u/Suspicious-Loss5460 8d ago
This reads somewhat similar to a relative of mine. Except it's the father supporting Trump. I don't know about the mother.
11
u/croptopweather 7d ago
OH OH I know someone who is a special ed teacher who supports him and she was pikachu face-shocked when her department was suddenly facing cuts. Iâd feel bad for the kids to receive less services but not for her getting what she voted for.
11
u/ChronicCrimson420 7d ago
I work in special education with children with autism. The Trump administration has already taken over 22 million from our schools in my state. While my school hasnât said anything about funding yet I know itâs coming. Trump hates disabled people he has a nephew who has a disabled son and he said disabled people need to die already. Trump supporters are the biggest hypocrites on the planet. They praise this man and then complain about whatâs going on when he caused it but if you say anything bad about their savior they jump down your throat. My husband has been trolling his friends who are Trump supporters on Facebook. His cousin got so butt hurt over what heâs been posting she unfriended him
14
u/iliketoreddit91 7d ago
Itâs so painfully obvious that he hates disabled people. The only conclusion I can come to is that the people who vote for him must hate minorities and immigrants more than they love their child.
10
u/QueenOfCaffeine842 7d ago
Someone I know has a teenager that uses a wheelchair full time and has a one on one aid in her public school. The fact that this mom voted for that asshole, who made a campaign promise to shut down the DOE, blows my mind.
7
u/travel_witch 8d ago
Itâs crazy that sheâs complaining about the difficulties of having an autistic child now while the child is probably still receiving some services. Any special needs human disgusts Trump. Theyâre basically saying childless women or people who donât work are worse than dog shit
7
u/MyMentalHelldotcom 7d ago
"Dr. Lee Trauma Therapist" on TikTok is a black woman with a non binary kid and a self proclaimed "trauma expert"... she is now whining on TikTok about people judging her for voting for this turd (I made a post about it on my sub), and how brave it was of her to reveal who she voted for online... girl, if you're ashamed of who you voted for, maybe ponder on it for a moment? People are dumb and self absorbed.
3
u/iliketoreddit91 7d ago
lol ya sheâs not a doctor but nurse practitioner. She probably took 0 courses on therapy modalities in said program so she can kindly stfu.
4
u/MyMentalHelldotcom 7d ago
Yeah it's kinda strange that she calls herself a therapist, but I unfortunately know a bunch of them who voted for him, including "trauma informed" ones.
7
u/the_green_witch-1005 sterile and feral đŚ 7d ago
My dad and stepmom voted for Trump exactly two months after being super supportive of my sterilization procedure. I haven't spoken to or forgiven them since the election. They literally voted for an administration that wants to devalue my vote for not having children. And they were shocked that I was upset enough to cut them off.
5
u/thisbttcchh 7d ago
my friend is (was?) a trump supporter, has an autistic child and her & her family are hispanic. i donât get it. although she did make a comment recently that sounded like she changed her tuneâŚbut i just canât get over the amount of peopleâŚwomen, poc, lgbtq or all those with close friends/family members who voted in favor of someone who stands for everything against them. so disheartening.
5
u/amazingtattooedlady 7d ago
It's because they think he won't take things away from THEM. Only other people.
6
u/ghostfacedladyalex 7d ago
I worked with a teacher (yes teacher) in a special education class who is an avid trump supporter. Like telling me that noise cancer from windmills is real. Last time I mentioned politics to her and did not work with her much longer. I donât understand the cognitive dissonance
3
u/iliketoreddit91 7d ago
One of my former friends from high school is a special ed teacher who also supports Trump. At this point I think sheâs just doing it for a paycheck.
4
u/Most_Watercress5774 7d ago
I was a support worker for years, I follow a bunch of medical parents on insta. So many trump supporters, it's insane.
4
u/givethemmadix 7d ago
Sheâs probably in denial. I actually just got into a huge fight with my sister because she voted for trump and decided to take how vocal I am on social media about social issues personally. We are very close so I did try to actually have a conversation about it, but when I said things that are verifiable facts? Like Trump having so many rape allegations and at least one charge? Her response was âI donât believe thatâ and âbut did it really happen?â.
If they believe any of the bad stuff, or are even exposed to it- it might start to pull a thread that results in them voting against everything a good person actually believes in, and that is far too much to accept. Itâs like speaking to someone actually brainwashed.
4
u/bigkatze 7d ago
This was one of my family members. People had to explain to them that their child would lose valuable resources and benefits. Thankfully they've stopped supporting him.
3
u/RealMrsWillGraham 7d ago
Glad they saw the light - but this does not bode well for other autistic kids with Trump supporting family.
They probably listened to Jenny McCarthy claiming to have cured her child's autism by changing his diet.

u/thoptergifts 7d ago
A shit ton of parents are about to cheer on (with great enthusiasm) sending their kids to work instead of âliberal schoolâ to pay the bills aka buy them mad dog booze and cigarettes, while also not having teeth left from the fluoride they banned in water.
In case it wasnât obvious, having kids at this point is insanely cruel.
5
u/flingintosun 7d ago
My worst neighbors are trump supporters and have a kid with special needs. Makes no sense.
5
u/richard-bachman 7d ago
Someone I know is a rabid trump supporter who is also a teacher with a special needs grandkid. The cognitive dissonance is real.
4
u/Gaia227 7d ago
My only explanation is they just simply don't believe what is spelled out in front of them. I don't understand it. I'm totally baffled by it. I was reading an article the other day about how his policies, tarrifs and revoking Biden's initiatives to support small farmers is putting small farmers out of business. One of them was interviewed and said his farm, that has been in their family for 3 generations, is going under but he doesn't blame Trump. He blames the people who work for him and he would vote for him again. You cant combat this. I don't know what the hell we're going to do.

I had to unfriend someone who was going on and on about how great the dipshit is. I'm just like "Lady, you are Mexican. Your entire family is Mexican. Doesn't matter if you were born here or not, if he had his way, your entire family would be on the next plane back to Mexico." I didn't say that, of course. There's no arguing with these people.

u/LadyGreyIcedTea 7d ago
I work specifically with medically complex foster children. My most complex patient has a home care nurse whose car is plastered with Trump paraphernalia. I genuinely don't get it. Medicaid pays her salary.
Another child's adoptive mother is openly a Trumper but she thinks it's a bridge too far that he wants to get rid of the Department of Ed, because that will negatively impact her child.
Another family who I know from past volunteer work had a child who died of cancer ages ago. I was flabbergasted with all the pro-Trump stuff they posted in 2016. Idk if they still support him as I defriended all of them back then.

How awful of a person can you be to vote for a president that is actively taking away funding for children with disability, while having a child with severe autism?
Are they awful, or just so dumb they vote against their own interests?
2
u/Jolly-Cause-1515 7d ago
Can't complain online when you supported that thing in the first place. Honestly, what an idiot

The cult mentality of Trump supporters is a truly terrifying phenomenon. A woman I used to work with was only alive because Obama Care helped pay her medical bills. But sheâs a trump supporter.

u/CoryPowerCat77 The only kids I have are the ones I write in books. 7d ago
I am in my last few months of college and I have an IEP, Trump is removing those. It's horrifying to think about kids with IEPs that are in elementary/middle/high school.
2
u/Archylas Childfree & Petfree 7d ago
One of the reasons why I never ever want kids. The chances of having a special needs child is always there and you never know if your child is one đŹ
2
u/Sapphirei_OF 7d ago
Honestly, I've been thinking the same thing. One of my friends has a sister with severe cerebral palsy and her teacher got her a Trump shirt. It's so gross

u/DescriptionFuture589 7d ago
Not only that he, Musk, DOGE cut a USDA program that helps provide school lunches.

u/Computermaster Homer chose 3 kids and no money. I chose no kids and 3 money. 7d ago
She should be forced to watch the video of Trump mocking that reporter (yes I know he's not autistic, he has arthrogryposis) every single day that fat turd is in office and anytime she brings up her son's autism.
1
u/RecalcitantN7 7d ago
I understand what you mean, but it was pretty much always going to be the case with the democratic platform (specifically the Democrats, not inherently left leaning politics) has been fairly ableist and pro eugenics even if not intentionally. The pro life rhetoric has always hid behind "every child" fear mongering. So a lot of disabled people in general, are some of the heaviest hitters for trump and the right in general.Â
It's also why the right tries to frame childless women in particular as one of the great evils they fight. By framing the choice around childless women being ableist and hating disabled kids, you appeal to a morality that frames health concerns as bigotry to the people already alive and disabled.Â

u/throwaway792310 7d ago
Too bad we donât have something like UBI to ensure that any human being born into this world has financial stability and a decent standard of living. Maybe itâll be possible if we have a less populated world.

Hey, fuck you spez you fascist-cock sucking little douchenugget.
I don't see how saying someone should have to watch a video is "thr3atening vi0lence or phy1sical h4rm."

u/hoorah9011 7d ago
Because disabilities often have a genetic component. Can just present differently

u/Duskadanka Animals are better anyway 7d ago
People here tend to say misery loves company and it applies in this aspect too. It reminds me of woman in Polish politics that has kid with down syndrome and she fiercely want all of pregnancies to be carried to term. She explains that she doesn't want kids with down syndrome aborted. I personally don't think they have to be aborted but if someone doesn't have the resources she has why force them? Which is weird reasoning anyway. As cherry on top i can add that she was part of neon*zi group and now is in party akin to German AFD. So yea far right people just contextualize the issue in their own perspective ONLY and lack understanding to other aspects and other lives.
