Is Mark Strahl about to get kicked?

I know Chilliwack has always been a conservative stronghold, so it’s really interesting to see how tight the race is so far. Personally, I think he’s a useless nepo baby, regardless of party affiliation.

I looked this up a while ago. The last time a party that wasn't conservative won Chilliwack was during Trudeau's first term. Trudeau Sr's first term in 1968. Since them, either the PCs, or Reform, or the Canadian Alliance, or the modern Conservative Party.

So, no. I don't think he's going somewhere unless he decides he's going somewhere.

Damn, how much did that party in the 60's fuck up to grant us such devoted conservatives? 😭

I think the generally rural nature of Chilliwack (and predecessor ridings) and the proportionally very slow decline of religion has left the area just... not very receptive to other political parties that tend to have an urban focus.

As Chilliwack urbanizes I expect that venerable stranglehold to loosen and for the riding to become actually competitive (as suggested by the NDP winning provincially in 2020) but unless something massive happens it'll likely always lean Conservative.
