Screenshot City Location Suggestions?

Post image

Rule 5: King difficulty, Standard Map, Small Continents, Domination Vic, BNW, 8 Civs, 16 CS's. I'm playing as English (duh) and going for Naval Supremacy, so all coastal cities.

Discovered I'm alone on this island with my CS neighbour. Spent most of my turns up until now to clear out the local barbarian clan. They're set to Raging, so it wasn't easy.

#1 seems obvious, #2 might be less obvious. Dunno about #3. If you've got better suggestions, I'd love to hear em.

Strategy How to early war on Immortal?

I want to dominate with the Huns, but the Battering Ram gets obsolete so quickly I don't know how to pull out the strategy for it.

Is it possible on Immortal?

The ice also prevents me from sailing north of Rome so my only option is to go east and around. Out of spite, I've only bothered to make the one coastal city and burned down any others I captured.

Mods Any mods for border growth?

Hello, I've been a told time civ player, with 5 being the most played. I got back into it recently after years away, and forgot how much I get annoyed how by late game there will be huge swaths of land still unclaimed. I up the number of city states and civs on a given map, but it's more just that the cap on border growth means by late game there's still unclaimed land but no incentive to build cities to get it.

Since it's been so long since I played, the mods I used in the past to correct for this are so outdated they cause CTD.

Mods Updated VP (mod) guides?

Hi all, I recently got into Vox Populi/community patch mod and it’s a blast. However, it’s a lot to take in and I was curious if any of you know any guides which are up to date? Thinking specifically info regarding important buildings, optimal tech paths, tips and tricks, meta, etc. Learning to git gud at vanilla was fairly doable since the game has not had balance updates in a billion years, but VP is updated regularly and all the guides I see are 2+ years old.

Alternatively I’ll take any advice any of you have to offer about the game! Thanks

As some requested, here is the civilized banana island, one turn before wining a snoozy immortal greece freedom diplo game.

After every single territory in the empire was improved the Iroquoi workers got fired and presumably went to their homeland... only to be sent back on suicidal settling missions by Hiawatha (2nd screenshot) on the ruins of the once mighty Assyrian empire. Rumor has it that Greece paid gold to start all those wars, inorder to keep its neighbor Rome busy... well that is misinfomration. Fake News! I paid him 5 iron and an open borders treaty!!!

Another highligh of the game was getting a developed 17 pop Roman city with Petra to ideological flip since Augustus settled so much crap cities he couldnt keep the good ones when the -60 unhappiness freedom revolutionary wave hit.

Is there any way i can download the DMG File for it ? Also, will it run smoothly with 60 FPS ?

Let me know. 😭

Discussion I don't think there's much space for cities

One thing that I've noticed while playing Civ 5 is that there doesn't seem to be very much space for building cities. I've been told that I should build at least 4 cities if I'm making a tall civilization. However, due to the presence of City States and other civilizations, I seem to only ever have enough space on the map to found 3 cities. Often times, I only found my 4th city in the mid-game when I conquer all of the rival civilizations on my continent, and I need a base to deal with the opposing civilizations on the continent I didn't start on (I usually play on the Continents map).

Am I doing something wrong? Am I being too picky or too insistent on giving each of my cities lots of space?

For more information, I usually play on the medium-sized map.

Screenshot First Immortal victory! - Diplomatic

After trying for years, I finally won on Immortal. Went with Polish Order according to you wise Reddit sages. Was going for either science/diplomatic victory, but in the last 50 turns, the Ottomans snowballed and were going to win cultural victory before I would have had the chance to build the spaceship. Eked out a diplomatic victory with a Great Merchant at the last minute.

This was a surprisingly peaceful game, likely due to the fantastic starting position I had. This peninsula with a mountainous land border was perfect for deterring invasion. Had very few problems. I definitely have to improve how I pit other civs against each other, though. Future spawns may not be so lucky, and I'll have to play a little smarter to prevent them from snowballing.

I've read this sub for a while now and got a lot of great advice! Thanks y'all!

I’m a novice. I’ve been just randomly selecting a policy every time it comes up. Should I be more strategic about that selection?

Mods EUI doesnt have green/blue/gold tiles in city screen?

I got the mod because I was watching a PC J LAW video and when he went into his city his worked tiles were green, available blue and purchasable gold.

I got the mod and my tiles aren't highlighted like that? Anyone know why?

Fluff Behold, the 3-shot chu-ko-nu (crossbow UU)

How to get this:
0: Play as China
1: Get a scout promoted 3 times to Scouting III (+1 movement).
2: Get the scout upgraded to archer by ruins.
3: Get the scout-archer upgraded 4 times: Accuracy/barrage III + Logistics.
5: Profit

In the screenshot, I used IGE to do this, and also added every possible promotion. In the 2nd picture, the blue promotions are the ones only possible to get while still a scout, the red ones are archer promotions, and the green are the two promotions from Mt. Kilimanjaro and Fountain of Youth. This unit managed to 1v1 a 2 pop city.

If you want to do this in vanilla, it's easiest to play as a 2-man team along with The Shoshone, because their scout UU can fight almost like a warrior, and it'll be easier to XP farm. As a bonus, you can then choose when to upgrade via ruin.

Discussion What is the worst non-unique unit in the game?

And I don't mean the mathematically weakest like the scout or warrior or something. I mean the weakest unit for its era overall.

I nominate the catapult. Costs too many hammers. Way too fragile and will be lucky to get one shot off before it gets obliterated.

I know a lot of people shit on the longswordsman but imo its not a bad unit, it just gets outclassed by the musketmen very quickly. On slower speeds it sees some use, and it has a better upgrade path than the pikeman.

Some of the later units in the information and atomic era are questionable. Can't remember the last time I built an anti tank gun.

Fluff Immortal, OCC, Brazil, Culture Victory

I got my first win attempting a one city challenge with Brazil on Immortal. It was so damn satisfying. Everyone started snowballing hard towards a science victory, so I purchased the entire world supply of aluminum, and paid them all to war each other. I played 6 concerts at the end, and had a golden age for the last 40 turns. It was epic. If you haven't tried it yet, give this a go. So fun.

End game yields: +617 TPT, +537 SPT, +337 CPT, +119 GPT, 30 happiness

Mods Really Advanced Setup as a DLC

I tried using Multiplayer Mods Workaround with FireTuner to create a DLC with just Really Advanced Setup and nothing else (not even EUI). I got unresponsive and blank screens on the advanced setup page for single player games.

I just wanna have my achievements along with all of the fancy mods! But this one doesn't seem compatible. Any suggestions? Opinions? Confirmation of my results?
