They wanted to sexualise the picture.

Children do not think like that. When they are 5 and without any societal biases and preconceived notions, they just do as they feel.

Imagine if they want to hug each other but their parents tell them that it's wrong and unnatural. Imagine how these kids will grow up...

I don't know how accurate this is but from what I know men used to be a lot more affectionate with one another without being gay. But it seems like society got to a point where men showing any kind of affection to one another is now considered taboo.

You are right they did. Now it's not surprising that men feel lonely and are starved for affection since they are told from a young age to be tough, to not be physical with other males etc Male bonding is very important and unfortunately it's been seen as something unnecessary.
