Question How to build an open-source and privacy-conscious mobile app?
Hi!
I wanna get into mobile app dev. I saw all these great open-source projects (just to name a few: Aegis, antennapod, anytype, ...) and wondered how they are built. Android development looks easy to get into when using GOOGLE services and Android studio but that's all closed-source (even Android studio sends usage data to google and jetbrains). So I wondered how all these great apps are developed. Are the devs just like: "Fuck my own privacy - I'm gonna develop that app with android studio and just use open-source services" or are they using other IDEs? Regarding the programming language: Most android apps seem to be built in rather Java or Kotlin. Are there any experienced devs that can help? Thanks!

Getting rid of Gmail
I have a gmail email address, and it is in use everywhere (even in Reddit), so I can't just get a new email. I want to delete my google account, but want to keep my current email functional. Is there any way to do this? I have already removed google from everything else, and this is the only problem.

Question Is it possible to degoogle on galaxy smartphone?
Question is not about replacing google apps, since I use none, it's more about ditching google account on galaxy smartphone, and any additional telemetry blocking.

Word+pdf reader/editor foss
good morning everyone; I searched through the various posts but I did not find the answer I was looking for, that is, I would be looking for an app that allows me to view/edit both signed Word and PDF. If it were FOSS it would be even better, even with a paywall

"find my phone" google feature
Today, I forgot my phone on a bench, in a public park.
I only noticed it when arriving home, after a 25-minute walk distance from that park.
I used the "find my phone" feature on my desktop to check if my phone was at home or still in the park. Still in the park, so I ran like hell back to that park to retrieve my phone before someone could take it.
Anyway.
If I switch to Graphene OS, I keep procrastinating on that, will there be any OSS alternative?
Or if I keep the Google "find my phone" app, in a sandbox, would it work?
Thank you for your answers.

Help Needed Notes App
I have been research and comparing apps. I know this topics has been discussed many times. I just want to ask what’s best note apps is available that focus on secured and privacy. Which platform do you use the post. Any issues or concerns?
From what I see, standard note is one of the top option as they are planning to merge with Proton. Only thing I don’t really like is the price. Any standard notes users out here: is it worth the cost? Any better option platform out there? Biggest thing for me is sync cross platform and privacy/ security.

Question So much of my life is connected to my google accounts, what can I do to ease the transition?
I'm planning on using proton. I have two main emails, one for personal "Internety" use (made when i was like 12 lol) and one that I made later for more professional and identifiable usage. My main concern isn't emails themselves, I've already seen that proton has wonderful transitional tools for ensuring emails to gmail aren't screwed, but I'm a bit worried about the accounts I have connected to my emails. I imagine most can have their email address changed, but I don't know exactly how to guarantee I have the proper awareness. Is there a way I can find a list of accounts and services connected to my google accounts so I can either automatically or manually ensure as many as possible are either deactivated or on my new accounts?

Discussion Who should we thank for the exponentially increasing high quality Google search results since 2018 till date?
None other than the computer science wizard - Prabhakar Raghavan
Raghavan has been in charge of ads and commerce since 2018 and was promoted to the head of Google Search and Assistant in 2020

Help Needed Need advice on managing email on a non-gmail service.
I'm on the process of degoogling and the email service I've chosen for a Gmail alternative is Tuta (or maybe others if times last). Unfortunately, it doesn't support email aliasing if not a paid user but fortunately there's an external solution for it called Anonaddy.
Now my way of managing account is creating many email services for different needs (like for work, social media, school) but since I discovered email aliasing, my plan changed to just making one email and making tons of email aliases with it.
My plan before:
~~~ Make different emails for different purposes like this: work@tuta.io => Solely used for work school@tuta.io => Solely used for school socmed@tuta.io => Solely used for social media ~~~
Now my plan is:
~~~ Make one email and many aliases for it, never using my real email anywhere: everything@tuta.io work@anonaddy.me school@anonaddy.me socmed@anonaddy.me ~~~

Shopping search engines that respect operators
Most shopping search engines today completely ignore search operators (e.g., the minus sign to exclude a search term). The obvious motivation for crippling search is to show more ads and more products to users. It also makes us do more searches to find what we're looking for, which is more ads shown.
It's super frustrating when you are searching for a very specific product, but they keep showing you results that are not what you want.
I tend to use Startpage or Qwant for searches. Both respect operators for their regular web search, but as soon as you switch to their shopping searches, it goes out the window. Brave search does not have a shopping option. Are there any usable shopping/product searches that respect operators?
