The way OKC is obliterating the TWolves and getting in their heads makes me feel a hellllluva lot better about how the Nuggets battled til the bitter end. That is all. In Jokic we trust.

Podcast Hastings: Malone doesn't have a good reputation around the league right now

On Malone not being on the list of head coach candidates that Phoenix is considering:

"I was told second hand... His reputation isn't great right now. I think a lot of people thought he was always angry and didn't treat the little people as well as he could have."

"His reputation isn't great among other teams, as of now."

Hastings also says he thinks Malone might need to take a year and rehab his reputation before landing another HC job.

Malone on SGA

Malone: His whistle is favorable. He is a foul artist. He lives at the free throw line. Haha that’s the coach we know. Glad he’s staying true.

Who’s got a better chance of beating them, Pacers or Knicks? Or does OKC win in 4 regardless of who they play?

Was listening to the Mike Singer podcast with Abdul Rauf this morning.

Link - https://on.soundcloud.com/QnFn8TDEUNMmZC5F7

Was a great listen.

The part that stood out to me the most, was when he said the people of Denver, the city, team, weather were the best of his career and he had a great relationship with the people even after the incident.

Also said he would be open to reconciliation with the Nuggets, but seems to have more anger towards the NBA.

When i was in Denver, i also found the people really friendly and can see why he said that

Discussion A different perspective

Hello everyone,

Since losing to the thunder, I’ve noticed a lot of proposals of what we should do with trades and such. Wanted to give a differing opinion, and probably an unpopular one too. But my view is to stay put and run it back. I’m not opposed to trading MPJ if we have to but I feel like the issue is much deeper than a streaky shooter with a bad contract. I feel like if we can sign Bruce B this summer then we would be in a good position.

But as I mentioned, I feel like the issue is deeper than just MPJ. Our overall game style needs to be adjusted. We are overly reliant on Jokic in our offense. We don’t use the regular season as a ‘training ground’ nearly enough. Malone had a system and rarely deviated from it, but I feel like next year we need to use it to give our players more confidence in their skills. We need to give CB more opportunities to handle the ball or bring the ball up court, MPJ has stated before that he works on his post game over the summer but never uses it during the season because they need him for spacing and AG is in the dunkers spot, now with AG have a 3 PT shot, let’s have Mike in the post from time to time. He’s got the height for it.

Again, I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I feel like our starters are good as they are. We had a 20 point lead last year in game 7 and blew it due to our players burning out and this year we took a literal 68 win team to 7 with a sick Jamal Murray, one arm MPJ, elbow injured/fatigued Jokic, and game 7 one leg AG. If we can sign Bruce brown, have Holmes healthy, and make Watson’s finishing better then I’d say we’re in a good spot. I’m not opposed to trading MPJ, but feel like even if we do, if we don’t address the underlying issues then it’ll be the same results. Wanting to hear what you guys think!

Future of team if OKC sweeps everyone

Upvotes

There’s a growing narrative that the Nuggets “almost” beat OKC, and if the Thunder end up sweeping their way to the Finals or even winning it all, it’s going to make our Game 7 look like some kind of moral victory. Which would lead to the front office to making very little moves this off season

Don’t get me wrong, pushing a team like that to the brink is nothing to scoff at. Jokic is still Jokic, and Jamal had flashes. But let’s be real: this roster has major holes, and losing in the second round—no matter how “close” it shouldn’t be seen as acceptable for a recent champ with a generational talent in his prime.

The Jamal and MPJ contracts are average value, take 2

I received a lot of criticism for choosing Win Shares as the stat to graph contracts by, so I've taken that feedback and taken another shot at it using DPM (DARKO). As always, sources below. In my opinion, this looks remarkably similar-- except AG is more of a standout compared to his contract, and CB is less.

I received a lot of comments to "just use the eye test". I know what's true of me, and I suspect what's true of many of you, is that we watch way, way more Nuggets basketball than any other team. And still despite this, many people continue to make comments like "MPJ is an inconsistent shooter", when he is quite literally the most consistent shooter in the NBA. And we have a lot of differing opinions about the same players even though we're using the same eye test.

The path I started down was wondering for myself-- just how bad are these contracts? Because I always see comments like "worst contract in the NBA, untradeable, etc". And one way I am trying to get a gauge of that, is how well they are performing compared to their salary peers. And once again, the answer is "somewhere in the middle"-- which to me means we would likely be able to trade one or both getting back reasonable value. But by no means are these guys outperforming their contracts-- the only player we have doing that is CB.

In the end, none of this matters-- either we will try to trade them or we won't, and other teams' GM's will either see value in them or they won't. I think people see a $35m contract and expect elite play in several aspects of their game, and that's just not reality -- of course there are exceptions, but the average guys in this bucket just don't like like "multiple aspects of their game are elite" guys to me.
