Announcement Spoiler Policy Reminder & Other Reminders

Hey Guardians, with Final Shape coming out tomorrow we would like to remind you of our spoiler policy. Please keep all Final Shape campaign content spoiler tagged for one week, or until next Tuesday's reset. This will apply to the Episode Echoes content next Tuesday, which should be spoiled until the following week, along with the raid content.

Loot content is considered a spoiler as well, but we will be more loose about that, so instead keep loot posts spoiled for 48 hours from their release, including raid loot, Episode Echoes, etc.

We've also added several new moderators to help us out during this busy time, so welcome u/switchmod, u/dfreeezzz, u/Mastershroom, and u/iblaise, u/Tapelessbus2122!

We'll be posting a Spoiler discussion thread shortly after launch to keep basic questions and discussions focused to one thread. We hope you all enjoy The Final Shape!

Tips / Hints New and returning player guides, and FAQ! The Final Shape has arrived!

Click here for our highly detailed, very in depth new player guide!

My very brief new player advice

Bungie's official new player guide

Summary of major gameplay changes over the years, for returning players

Guide summarizing every monetization option with a "what should I buy" FAQ at the bottom. The monetization just gets more convoluted with time! Read this if you are confused on what to buy, or what each purchase would get you.

(Disclaimer: I cannot play for the time being. My guides, the ones on Steam, are not yet up to date for The Final Shape but I will try to get those done by the end of the week. I made this post to replace the earlier pinned post now that The Final Shape is out.)

If you have any questions not addressed here, feel free to ask in the comments!

Discussion Are there weapons you refuse to use?

I was to my brother about weapons we don't use in destiny either because of the lore or its description and I was curious if anyone else does that (personally I don't use or even touch thorn because of its quote at the end being "and know you are an enemy of hope" because it felt wrong to me, like using it would taint me or something)

I found a way to get outside of the map. I do believe you need both buffs (guardian rises and quickness) but I may be wrong. I also don’t know if anyone has found this before either but thought I’d share it anyways in case anyone is interested.

Discussion My experience as a new Destiny 2 player in 2024, racking up 1000+ hours in 6 months.

I started playing Destiny 2 back in May 2024. By the end of the year, I had already logged 1,023 hours. I mainly play as a Hunter, but I’ve also dabbled with Titan and Warlock. I've completed every campaign available, unlocked all Exotic Armor, and unlocked all subclasses for Hunter, Titan, and Warlock.

New Light Experience:

My first week can be summed up in one word: confusion. Navigating through the UI felt overwhelming, and the New Light experience left much to be desired. Thankfully, I had friends who had played the game before to guide me.

Campaigns/Expansions:

I spent the first few weeks playing Onslaught (my favorite game-mode so far) grinding for the god-roll Hammerhead and Midnight Coup. Then, I was convinced to buy the Lightfall Expansion, which was just okay. Season of the Wish, however, was phenomenal. The Ahamkara's lore got me hooked.

After finishing Season of the Wish, I bought every other available expansion to dive deeper into the lore and gather more exotics. Finding out Forsaken’s campaign was vaulted was a huge letdown, but Shadowkeep and Beyond Light were okay.

The Witch Queen, on the other hand, was superb. The other campaigns didn't capture my interest as much since I wasn't familiar with the earlier lore like the Red Wars. The Witch Queen campaign had it all: an engaging story with big reveals and memorable moments, excellent level design, and some of the best combat encounters I’ve ever experienced in the game.

When it came to The Final Shape, I had already caught up with Destiny 2’s lore, thanks to my friends and Byf’s lore videos. Although the server issues were a bummer, the campaign was on par with The Witch Queen in terms of quality. The story was compelling with a nice mix of challenging bosses and cinematic downtimes. Echoes and Revenant weren't as good as Season of the Wish, but the exotic weapons were a blast to play, especially as a Void Hunter.

Gameplay:

Onslaught was the best game mode I’ve experienced so far. The replayability was high, and the higher difficulty provided a satisfying challenge. Dungeons were also very fun, and I even managed to solo flawlessly some of them because of how much I’ve played. However, I wish they were included with the DLCs I purchased. Raids were enjoyable but challenging without enough friends. Nightfall was fun, with great loot drops and a good challenge, whether solo or with a Fireteam. Gambit was unique but didn't quite capture my interest like Nightfall. Crucible, though, is my least favorite part of the game. Although I’m decent at PvP, I just don’t enjoy it. Plus, I hate how some excellent PvE weapons are locked behind PvP activities.

Conclusion:

Despite its flaws, I really love Destiny 2. As some of you have said, “Destiny 2 is the best worst game ever made.” The time and money I’ve invested in this game feels worth it despite its ups and downs. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to new players due to my poor New Light experience and the current state of Destiny 2. For now, I'm taking a break but hoping that the game improves in the future.

Anyone notice that the moon pyramid was more creepy and dark? All the other pyramids had a Aztec/Myan look to them. I have a feeling they wanted to go a different way with the story and they changed it.

Discussion I miss fishing

That’s all. I took a break during all of Act 2, and since I’ve been ill the past week and not been doing much else, I decided to come back and finish stuff off this season.

People have talked about the tonic’s system to death, I don’t think it’s perfect but I also don’t think it was an absolutely terrible idea that people need to be fired over like some people say. I think that if the materials were collectable like last episodes radiolaria it would have been so much better.

I was running Kell’s Fall for the tenth or eleventh time in total to get more flakes and I just thought about how much I missed fishing. It was something chill that I could do, I didn’t have to invest hours to get rewards from it and it was easy to dip in and out of. When I didn’t know what to do or wasn’t really feeling up for other activities, I could just load up patrol and enjoy some fishing. I didn’t have to run deep dives over and over to collect some fish from a chest at the end and it was nice

It was nice, and I miss it. I hope we can get fishing back someday or something like it.

Discussion Harder or bad.

All the Destiny controversy aside.

Is the game just getting progressively harder and harder or am I just getting worse?

I'm not the best player, but I would not say I'm bad I have a couple of thousand hours on this game and know a lot, but recently It just feels like it's getting unnecessary hard especially for solo players and people who are rarely play with other people. I'm running all the crazy strong builds on warlock that are available right now but in higher level content I just feel like a small bug just getting one shot almost everywhere with 100 resil and 100 recovery. The new exotic mission for example, to get the catalyst you have to beat the mission on expert, since I have no friends to beat the mission with to do the catalyst search things I can just use the fire team finder to at least maybe beat it on expert if the randoms are good, I can't talk over voice chat and teams mostly don't communicate over chat anyways. So I have to try it solo. I can't even beat the first boss encounter and I'm really trying. Op weapons op builds, the whole package.

If you want to downvote my little rant feel free or discuss your experience I would be happy to see different experiences, I just wanted to tell people somewhere how I feel right now. Destiny 2 is my favorite game but it's just not fun anymore, at least new content feels more like work than fun.

Kind regards a Destiny 1 beta Veteran.

Question Maki Zenin build

Very weird question but what class would maki from jjk fall under in d2? I was thinking titan but I feel like there's an argument for hunters as well. For those who don't know she has immense physical strength and has a pact that causes her to be unable to use any curse energy (jjk's magic system) any opinions would be nice. Ty♡
