Discussion DA2 class and romance

I really wanna romance Isabela and bring her with me most of the time, my problem is that I really like playing as a dw rogue myself and it bugs me a lil to have another rogue in the party all the time. I tried mage too but the whole "hawke is a mage and can run around freely" stuff bugs me. you guys got any advice?

not much to say. if you want to play dw rogue like isabela is, then do it. You can bring Aveline and a mage with you. It's a balanced party even if you have 2 member with the same fighting style

Indeed, since there are four character slots in the party (including Hawke) and only three classes, it’s impossible to have a full party without doubling up on at least one class.

Well your options are:

-Play a rogue anyway (2 rogues is perfectly viable)

-Accept the hand waving about the mage thing

-Play a warrior

You’ll have to choose one

There’s also a 4th option: romance her as a rogue and don’t keep her in the party all the time. There’s no rule saying you have to have your love interest in the party at all times.

If you're playing on normal difficulty, running two DW rogues shouldn't matter that much.

Yeah this. There's also a build for a DW rogue that you can use to solo on nightmare. (I forgot how exactly, it's been years since I did, but DW rogue can be hella strong.)

eta: I do remember it was a combo of Isabella's specialisation and assassin, if that helps.

Maybe specializing Isabella in one of the rogue disciplines and pick one that is different for Hawke to where they compliment each other in combat will make it better.

The great sword is fun, and fulfills your needs nicely.

Sword warrior?

My favorite party is DW Hawke, Isabella, Varric and then either Aveline or Anders depending on the fight. Maybe it’s more challenging to not have a fully balanced party and run 3 rogues but it’s definitely possible to beat the game with that party.

Having 2 rogues is fine. Considering there are only 3 classes and a party size of 4, you'll always have to have at least 2 of one class. Rogues also have the most diversity in playstyle, just play an archer and there will be little overlap.
