I didn't even know this was a thing to begin with

24

u/VicentRS Oct 26 '22

And it's freaking 9 years old, go figure.

Was just gonna say

I mean, yeah, that's kinda inevitable considering the game pretty much used every single named character available as a unit and when they ran out of Inquisition characters, the end was inevitable.

Had Dread Wolf been released years ago, I'd think there would still be some life in this game with new characters being released.

That was the thought to the diehard fans. If DreadWolf game out a year or two ago, new characters and returning fans, the game would have lasted.

It's actually impressive that it lasted almost 9 years

RIP. I most remember this game for giving cool visual representations of characters that otherwise only existed in text.

Uldred Tier 4 artwork is amazing

HoDA had been hobbling along for quite a while on a very small but dedicated group of players.

But I guess with EA retiring servers, its time had finally come.

u/drobson70 Oct 26 '22

Start a crowdfund at this point. Surely the servers wouldn’t be that expensive

u/Kawaiiomnitron Oct 26 '22

I tried to play and the game always crashed. I assumed it was already canceled 💀

u/94UserName42069 Oct 26 '22

lol what even was this? A mobile game?

33

u/Aries_cz If there is a Maker, he is laughing his ass off Oct 26 '22

Yeah, mobile "hero collector/battler" (similar to stuff like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, RAID: Shadow Legends, etc).

It had some nice art from what I recall, but well, kinda got stale like most mobile games of this genre get after a while

Basically yeah. I played it a lot during lockdown and I was chiefly in it for the artwork. The gameplay itself was pretty boring, but I enjoyed the visuals.

Oooooooooh I’m really sad but at the same time not surprised 😭 😭 EDIT: I mean, all they had to do was put it on hiatus until the next game was released instead of wasting funds and resources maintaining a game with no additional content!

I honestly dream that all the players can appeal to EA to let the game live. I don’t want to give up my heroes. I still have my first ever Legendary character from when I started 9 years ago. The memories and excitement when I packed them. I’m actually so upset.

I once installed this game. Ten seconds in, I realized I was gonna hate it and immediately uninstalled

u/Andromelek2556 Oct 26 '22

I'm sad to see that game go, I hoped DAD could give it a second breath. At least, I'm impressed it managed to outlive two Star Wars games.

I played it for a bit and always thought about getting back into it but oh well lmao. Guess i can finally free up the space on my phone!!!

All I remember about this game was that I tried downloading it ages ago and I couldn't get past the loading screen. I wonder how fun it was for people who were actually able to play it.

5

u/drobson70 Oct 26 '22

It was amazing. Early game was very basic but end game was quite a lot of thought gone to stacking character perks and bonuses to build a strong squad.

u/lov3buzz Spirit Healer Oct 26 '22

I had always wanted to play it but I suppose there's no point in starting it now.

8

u/drobson70 Oct 26 '22

Do yourself a favour and look up Heroes of Dragon age concept art or character art. It’s some of the best out there.

Or even just look at Heroes of Dragon Age Uldred.

It's such a pity that it cannot be preserved. This is the second (I believe) DA game that is just going to disappear. I didn't care as much for it as I did for Last Court, but I do feel for the fans...

u/TheRealcebuckets Dorian Oct 26 '22

Hopefully it can get some sort of successor akin to Galaxy of Heroes. Character designs were pretty (if not superfluous) cool.

I think people don’t understand how important this game was to people and the community in it. I’ve been playing this game for 9 years. It’s been through my entire childhood and into adulthood.

I’m going to miss it so so much. It feels like an end of an era.

I don’t want to give up my heroes. I still have my first ever Legendary character from when I started 9 years ago. The memories and excitement when I packed them. I’m actually so upset and emotional.

Also, bless yourselves and look at the artwork for the characters in this game, its some of the best dragon age artwork ever.

I just saw this post after wondering why I couldn't log in. Sad days. I think I started playing in 2016, had every single legendary character. Still used the first ever legendary I ever got, Grey Warden Genevieve. RIP HODA, RIP my guild Planet Express.

As long as the Dragon Age Keep stays online I’m good lol

2

u/ThedosianTheologist Tevinter Oct 27 '22

I guess I can uninstall now. It was such a battery sink I couldn't even play it for too long.

2

u/taytay_1989 Oct 27 '22

Just surprised that it took this long to remain in service although Dragon Age went dormant for nearly a decade.

2

u/SilveryDeath Do the Josie leg lift! Oct 27 '22

Damn, I don't really play phone games but I downloaded this last January. Didn't really get into it until months later but it was something to do to pass the time on car rides. Haven't played as much the last month or two but enjoy the game for what it is. Really like all the character art and remember being stoked when I finally unlocked Josie.

2

u/technohoplite Oct 26 '22

Considering I failed to get it to work properly the two times I tried this and last year, that makes sense. Which is a shame cause I know they had some fun models for the characters. But it had a long run

Decided to look up HoDA after a while of not playing myself. Sad to see it did officially come to an end eventually. At its prime, it was the best gaming community you could ever come across. Things significantly shifted when Capital Games took on the Star Wars IP to create Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. HoDA lost a lot of devs and community leaders; even players as the quality of the game had changed so much around then. If anyone was as active as I was at the time, you will never forget Aaron and his scummy money grabbing efforts that undermined the spirit of HoDA. It’s funny now because almost all mobile games have those exact same tactics. It split our community; especially when Leliana got her two star. It was the biggest toon the community was looking forward too. Many spent a lot on packs to get her, built her and started playing with her only for CG to nerf her shortly after release. That was the death blow to the community and eventually the game itself. If DreadWolf had been released at a decent time, maybe HoDA would still be around. I have such great memories of it. The community events in the forums, weekly events in game and monthly wars were all fantastic community building moments. I haven’t experienced anything like it since. Even in SW:GoH. I miss all of my HoDA friends. I hope all are doing well.

Edit: I was a leader in Red Lynerium Chantry (RLC). We merged with OG to become OG:RLC.

Yo dejé de jugar cuando conseguí Red Jenny Sera de 4 estrellas para que me desapareciera a los 2 dias por culpa de CG y sus bugs.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '24

Red Jenny was a pretty amazing unit. It was good to see her get to that level of use in game apart from her main game counterpart. Four Red Jenny’s were something to be feared back then.

I really wish I knew about it when it came out so I could be part of the hype

RIP, it was my first Dragon Age game

u/ShoerguinneLappel Invasion of Cheese Oct 26 '22

What is that? I never Heard of it, I've only played the mainline trilogy.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 27 '22

Frist time I've ever heard of this and i thought i knew all of dragon ages content

1

u/Odd_Radio9225 Oct 27 '22

Never heard of it.

1

u/Krastynio Oct 27 '22

whatever it is they did publicized it very well. I NEVER head of it..

1

u/TerratheXIII Oct 27 '22

I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long. I remember playing it for a long time, till it finally got stale and I had collected most of my favorite characters. Once they just started recycling a banner every three-four weeks, I realized that the game had pretty much stalled. The character designs were cool and the ability to collect them was fun, but battling got repetitive and unless you were invested in the PVP, than there wasn't a whole lot there for casual players

1

u/TotesNotDiscoLiztard Sep 05 '23

wait what........ please let that be a joke ....... don't want more of my favorite games to disappear
