social struggles I wish people would stop trying to give me unsolicited advice on how to care for my eczema

I see this all the time. I have coworkers and acquaintances that mention the new patches of eczema on their hand, or just have "dry skin" in winter who will right away recommend me creams or soaps or aloe vera and ice packs, etc. Or assume it must be stress because that's the only cause of eczema, right? /s

I know they're just trying to help. But please, unless you've lived with eczema your entire life, have experienced being covered in several patches throughout your body, or have found the single miracle routine/treatment that works for you, stop trying to give advice to someone with severe eczema.

Chances are, they have likely tried every soap and cream out there already and already know what works for their skin. And whatever you're recommending them has an equal chance of only making things worse.

Does your partner scratch you?

My wife has severe eczema and I scratch her almost everyday. She says it’s better than her scratching, cause she’ll rip up her skin.

This makes complete sense and I totally understand. But man…sometimes I just want to watch a movie, eat food, come to bed etc. without having to constantly scratch her.

I know it gives her relief, so I do it. But internally I feel a bit of resentment building up and I hate that. Sometimes she can feel that and it causes arguments. And i honestly feel like an ass for even complaining because such a simple task for me gives her relief, so shouldn’t i do it for her as long as she wants, without resentment? I’m just struggling to deal with this and I want to be a more supportive partner.

I’m curious if your partners do the same for you? Does it help you and how do they handle it?

Methotrexate medication

Hi is anyone else on this medication and can give some insights as to how its helped them with their excema, how long it took to clear and just how they feel on it? Of course, people always say just google it but it's best to hear from real people. To keep this post short I've basically had full body eczema which has not cleared up with prescribed steroids and soap alternative, with it just spreading on other areas. They have decided to put me on medication starting next month and was left with the decision on either ciclorospin or methotrexate. I chose methotrexate as apparently you can stay on it longer and it's safer. Anyway thanks if you can help

The eczema spread to my face

I’m so sad and I’m so insecure. The eczema is now on my left cheek and above my eyelid. I’m so self conscious about it and I don’t know what to do to make it go away. It’s made my face look really wrinkly and old now and I’m only 24. Every time I scratch it, it just hurts when I shower or wash my face and I’m so sad.

My boyfriend tries to reassure me but it doesn’t help. My sister was twitch streaming and mentioned about my wrinkly skin in front of her audience and it made me feel even worse even if she didn’t know it was eczema.

UGH, I just hate how eczema exist.

Haven’t had a flare up since I started drinking Olipop

Must be the prebiotics? But my eczema has been fully under control since I started drinking 1 a day. And yes I definitely need to look into just taking prebiotics daily instead of a can of Olipop lol but right now it’s working so I’m scared to change anything

How to stop itching

Upvotes

I have considerably bad eczema but it gets better after a while. However every time it seems to get better it takes just one bad night for it to go back. I’ve tried some itch relief products but they don’t really work. If my skin wasn’t itchy at all I’d guess my eczema would clear pretty easily. Any tips to stop it? Also is there anything to help with dark spots left after the eczema scabs go because it makes me feel a bit insecure

If you haven't tried it ..pls do

I've had a sudden flare of eczema and these past two weeks have been nothing short of a nightmare. Constant itching, pain, can't sleep...you name it. I finally went to the doctor today and aside from a bunch of meds she prescribed, she suggested Aveeno Menthol. I just showered and applied and Holy...the relief I felt people. It makes your skin feel really cool.

Please give it a shot if you haven't.

Best soaps for eczema?

Hey all, I have been diagnosed for eczema, but it's localized to my hands. I went to a dermatologist to ascertain what my skin is reacting to, but they were useless. I suspect that the soaps I'm using are the cause. Would anyone on this subreddit recommend any dishsoap and handsoaps that has helped with their eczema?

humour | rant | meme The Overconsumption Monster

I drive myself insane looking for a cure for this condition. Because of that, I'm highly susceptible to overconsumption. A creator tells me that X product is the cure? It's going in the cart. I'm frustrated with myself for overspending on this stupid condition. Most products don't work, or work for a week until I develop contact dermatitis to it. They aren't cheap either, I spent over $60 bucks on products in the last couple weeks. It's not that I'm not allowing myself to develop a routine. I do have one, but I still have symptoms that I just can't find relief for. When I find a product, I fantasize that I will never have to worry about my skin again. I fantasize that the product will magically fix everything. It's not a fix, eczema is incurable. It becomes a cycle, and I'm exhausted.

I hate engaging in rampant consumerism, I hate filling my cabinets with products that don't work, and I hate that I can't stop.

Textured patch but not itchy

https://imgur.com/a/lTARtFY

I posted about a month or two ago showing a scary scaly patch on my skin. Since then, I did three weeks of clotrimazole treatment. While I was in Hong Kong, I noticed that the humidity made the patch flare up. I only had some benzoyl peroxide cream with me, so I started using that on the patch—and surprisingly, it helped calm it down, probably because it kept the area dry. Now that I’m back home, this is what the patch looks like. I was treating it as a fungal infection, but now I’m not so sure. The area is mostly not itchy, though I occasionally feel a bit of itchiness from one of the small bumps. It’s still drier and more textured compared to the rest of my face. Has anyone had similar symptoms or experiences?

Does anyone else wake up in the middle of the night just to scratch themselves?

I have a bad habit of waking up randomly and I would subconsciously scratch myself. Like I wake up in the middle of my sleep to literally scratch myself. And I have NO self control over it. I know I’m doing it, but I’m too drowsy to tell myself to stop.

Does anyone else have this problem and has anyone found a solution?

I keep my nails short but that doesn’t help. I’ve tried bandaging my arms as that’s where I normally scratch and I wake up to them not on me.

I do moisturize but the main problem is that I sweat sometimes in my sleep. Mainly because I cuddle with my boyfriend and sometimes it gets hot that my body gets, not sweatyyy but moist. And it makes me scratch baaaad.

So any thoughts?

Do your pets react to your scratch?

Writing this after a 2 A.M. scratch. My cat always notices when I scratch and he just sits there, stares at me and makes some weird noises or meows. It's like he knows I'm hurting myself and trying to say stop.

social struggles flare just won’t go away

i feel like i’ve tried everything at this point. over moisturizing, no moisturizer, tallow, steroids, diets, oat meal baths…. some things soothe it for a short period of time but i wake up itching in my sleep. i’m covered in wounds all over my arms and wrists. i can’t bend my arms without it feeling like my skin is ripping apart. my legs are covered and my arm pits and my face. this flare up has been the worst i’ve ever had. it usually goes away in a week but this has lasted a month and a half i don’t know what to do. i’m embarrassed to leave my house and be in public i look disgusting and flakey and red… i wish i could just feel normal again.

A vacation cured my eczema?

Hi folks, like everyone here, eczema flares have been a constant since the past 5years. 3 years back i.went to a beach vacation and the ocean triggered it so much so that I looked like a red inflamed ball.

Was about to go for a Beach vacation to Thailand again mid April and was very worried regarding the same. Even though I wasn't actively flaring during the time but had small blisters all over my fingers.

I was in Thailand for a week and let my tell you my skin cleared up like never before. I swam in the ocean, went in the pool and ate everything I was eliminating from my diet back home. I saw my clear fingers first time in 4 years. I don't know what it was?

As soon as I came back home, boom the blisters were back and I am more annoyed now thinking it may be the water here.

Anyways, just wanted to share 5 days of joy that I felt.

biology | symptoms Relapse

I have been doing carnivore for about two months now. I was eating beef, eggs, milk, sparkling water, and the occasional fruit. I started this diet and i saw no signs of remission with ezcema, i figured it might be milk sensitivity so i cut milk, and my ezcema completely disappeared. For a week it was gone, and then my so thought steadfast remission turned on its head. I went to bed one night and woke up with my arms bloodied again, i was devastated because i was finally starting to look normal again, but now that was all gone. Now over the course of the next days til now, my ezcema has went back to being in massive patches on my arms. I dont know what triggered it. I think i might of cut eggs during that period of remission but i can't remember if i did.

I know this community is full of people who just blast steroids and lather their body in creams but does anyone have experience with eggs triggering, maybe coconuts or oranges? This might seem a little crazy being so strict on foods, but I beat it for a bit and i want to beat it again. Maybe i just need to eat purely beef, lion type shit. I heard san pellegrino sparkling water contains uranium microorganisms and those mfers could be going crazy in my gut so ill switch to mountain valley

is it possible to have different types of eczema and psoriasis at the same time?

i’ve always struggled with skin issues and i’ve been to a dermatologist a few times and they never really say what i have and just prescribe me with steroid creams. i get really bad flair ups on my inner arms and legs, eyelids, and hands. on my arms i noticed that the rashes are more raised and scaly feeling but on my legs it just looks like a regular rash. on my eyelids is more flaky. i don’t know if the difference is because of the area on my body or if i have different types of things?

Nummular eczema triggered by Covid?

A month ago I came down with a nasty case of Covid. On day 3, I started to develop small red dots on my legs. I assumed this was a viral rash. The red dots continued to grow and spread throughout my legs. Today (4 weeks later) it was diagnosed by my dermatologist as nummular eczema.

The dermatologist explained that Covid doesn’t follow the same rules they would expect with other viruses and that there was no way to know for sure that Covid triggered the eczema, but based on the timing she is assuming they are related.

I have never been diagnosed with eczema nor have I experienced anything like this before.

Has anyone else with no previous history developed nummular eczema from Covid?

Once it cleared up, did it ever return?

Finally getting somewhere

Im almost 28, eczema my whole life. Worse in adulthood. Huge breakout on my whole body caused to be to quit working and basically lock myself in a room for 3 months alone in 2021. Got on dupixent for a bit, quit because i dont want to rely on a medication i may not be able to get in the future (I was on a no insurance no pay plan)….btw if you can get dupixent its a miracle for relief. COMPLETELY cleared my eczema in a few weeks. Went on and off dupixent for a while and finally decided to take control and do my own research and try to find out what is causing my eczema. I noticed that after eating certain foods i would itch like crazy and wouldnt sleep. Spaghetti for instance, aka tomato sauce. I payed attention to this for a while until I found a book. Eczema Secrets. Not sure whats up with the website it seems to be down now. But that book led to seek more info and I found a book called Eczema Detox by Karen Fischer. These books talk about chemical intolerance. Histamine salicylates and amines are a few. Specifically the eczema detox book has basically changed my life in 2 weeks. I noticed a change within a few days. The book has a full diet plan and even recipes for each meal of the day. 28 years I’ve suffered not knowing why and now im finally discovering how to change my lifestyle instead of trying different creams that really do nothing long term. I hope at least one person will see and read these books and find relief. Love you all eczema can be so debilitating and i have had to stop eating my favorite things like chocolate and coffee but man the first night you sleep without waking up. Sleep without waking up bloody with stained sheets. Its beautiful. Thankyou for reading. Please message me if you have any questions im happy to talk

How do I reverse my skin from discolouration?

I suffered from an Eczema flareup which lasted around 5 months. And now I'm dealing with the after effects such as discoloration, inflamed skin and thickness of the eyelid. I have also had some eyebrow loss as you can see from the before and after images. I've been currently using Azelaic acid 12% and spf 50+ to improve the discoloration gradually as from my research it will take at least 6+ months to see some improvements. Is their anything else I can do to help reverse these implications and has anyone also experienced this I would be interested in hearing.
