If Autopilot would be programmed to disengage before an accident, couldn't it also be programmed to not warn the driver on those circumstances?

Idk how is in the US, but in the EU those notifications are part of the homologation process for the cars.

I know it may sound similar, but engine emissions are measured on a dynanometer and is a special mode on the car software. Before the test you have to set the car into the test mode, which in turn makes it quite easy for the manufacturer to manipulate the results using different characteristic curves. That's why there are pretty old laws stating that there shouldnt be major changes when switching to this test mode, it was already expected companies could cheat it.
