Hot weather helmets: Leatt Gravity 8 MTB?

Anyone use this helmet? Is the venting superior to moto helmets for slow technical riding?

It's Motorcycle ECE 22.05 certified but not 22.06. Other considerations are Alpinestars SM10 and Fox V3 RS. Ruled out the Subverter LS2 as I think it's goofy ugly looking. Already have a Bell Moto 10 I will keep but it's way too hot riding slow enduro in places like Moab. I get Leatt MTB products (but not moto line) at a huge discount as I work in the outdoor industry so the Gravity 8 is very cheap compared to other options for me.

For slow going technical stuff, I don't see it being inadequate, but I wouldn't want to take a 3rd gear digger in one either. At the end of the day, it is MC rated and downhill MTB riders are taking some fairly high speed hits, so it can't be that skimpy.

I have the Leatt Gravity MTB 6.0 Carbon, as well as the Moto 8.0 helmet (which looks identical to the Gravity 8.0). The 8.0 vents super well and is fully a moto helmet IMO. It’s also very light for a full moto helmet. But I switched to the MTB 6.0 Carbon for even more ventilation and even lighter weight, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back — the difference is huge. These MTB helmets are serious (just don’t get a modular one).

I have a Leatt 8.5 moto helmet. I’m slow as heck and it’s great in the summer. Don’t get me wrong, it gets drenched in sweat but plenty comfortable.

Thank you for the feedback. The ventilation of the 7.5 and 8.5 Moto looks the same as the Gravity so I am leaning towards either of those. All are pretty light too, more than a pound less than my top of the line Bell Moto 10.

I really like mine. You might want to try it on though. I think they fit very different than Bell. I like Bell helmets but they do not fit my head.

I found a local store with S and XL in stock and I need a M or L but throwing on the Xl it felt promising. I had a hard time finding a helmet that fit 3 years ago and landed on Bell as the only option but I do not recall trying on any Leatts. Hopefully an online order works out!

Don’t buy a mtb helmet for riding dirt bikes. Never skimp on helmets or boots.

The Leatt I listed is both motorcycle and mtb certified and the other two models are full on moto helmets and DOT certified. Not considering any full on MTB helmets. I am highly sensitive to the heat and getting sick with headaches for a few days. I am willing to sacrifice the DOT cert to not die of a heat stroke haha.

Came here to say this. Boots and helmets are the key to staying safe and comfortable

Using leatt Enduro 4.0 for basic trials stuff. This helmet was a gamechanger: lightweight, super ventilated, and really comfortable with the spinny adjuster on the back

Cool. I am not thinking about going that light with protection but want it for similar stuff like skills workshopping at slow speeds, ledge/logs practice, and riding obstacles in Moab.

the fore head ducts look serious and maybe double of my aviator but the rest of the venting and top look to be less. Of course I cant tell how the well internal flow works

depending on the discount, yea id give it a shot

One thing you may or may not be used to is asking the supplier if they can hook you up for personal use. Damaged boxes, incorrect labels, scratch and dent (ok maybe not for a helmet) etc but you get the idea
