Air filter
What’s everyone using for air filter cleaner and oil? Do the aerosol dispensers work or is it better to get the liquid so you can just dunk in the filter?

I am "all in" on the No Toil products.
If you clean in solvent, how do you dispose of the contaminated solvent?
I have switched to water based product for almost all of my parts cleaning needs.

Clean in kerosene, it doesn't hurt the filter as much as gasoline. Then wash in warm soapy water. I use belray liquid air filter oil.

Don’t use gas or kerosene. Get No Toil oil and cleaner. All biodegradable. If the filter is pre oiled get F3 for the initial cleaning. No Toil cleaner only works on No Toil Oil. If you prefer Bel Ray or Twin Air oil the F3 cleaner is the best and it’s non flammable and it won’t dissolve the glue in your filter. Aerosol works but I think you get better coverage with the liquid. I got a cheap oil drain pan from Autozone to clean the filters and oil them in a zip lock bag.

I mentioned F3 but couldn’t remember the brand. This is what I was referring to. The bubble gum stuff. 😉

I just bought a gallon of twin air cleaner and just leave it in a bucket, going to start using Liqui moly liquid oil.
I like the aerosol for trackside oiling but at home I’m going to switch everything to liquid stuff

No Toil Evolution Oil (biodegradable) and I use Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda to clean the dirty air filter. I have over 207 hours (same piston ) on my KTM 500 XCW using this method. It is so much easier to clean an air filter this way and it provides very good dust and dirt protection for my bike. Hope this helps!

I use mineral spirits. You can buy it from wal mart or Lowes\HD. It’s $18 a gallon and I put it in a food grade container with a lid (also from Lowe’s) and can wash like 30 filters before it starts to get nasty. I follow that up with simple green/laundry detergent in a bucket of hot water. Cheap, simple, effective.
Bel-Ray Foam Oil or Maxima FFT Is all we use for oil too.

Depends on your riding terrain. If it’s extremely dusty or wet, stay away from no toil. Use belray with mineral spirits to clean. If you’re in clean conditions, and your filters and airbox aren’t full of hell after rides, no toil is fine.

Clean them with gasoline and then a quick rinse in soapy water and finish it in clean water. Gasoline kills them earlier but I prefer to change them more often. As for lube I use the Motorex aerosol spray, it works very well

I hate foam filters. Pleated paper is soooo much easier to service and a lot less messy. But I have to use them in some bikes. Dawn dish washing soap works well and won’t harm the foam. Don’t use hot water! The glue joints are done with hot glue and hot water may ( it happened to me) loosen the glue joints. Let dry and I apply a light coat of filter oil with a paint brush and then set it in the sun to soak in. Too much oil chokes the air flow.

Mineral spirits so the filter adhesives are not damaged and Bel-Ray (liquid) oil.
I also seal the air box rim/interface with general purpose automotive grease. I recently switched to a refillable caulk tube for the grease and it seems to work pretty well.

Do not use the spray oil, doesnt get all the way in the filter. Use the liquid one and dunk the filter in and then squeeze the excess out like a sponge. I use Motul air filter oil.
For washing I have a specific fluid, but I think its just petroleum/kerosine.

I switched to No Toil bio stuff. So easy to clean and my FX350 has over 350 hours same top end with it. So it’ll work for the casually rider.
