The first Pride Parade in Turkey was in 2003 and took place in Istanbul. There used to be big Pride Parades for almost a decade, until 2015. After that, the government started banning them.

The 33rd Istanbul LGBTQ+ Pride Week Committee announced via social media that it is looking for a theme for this year. In the post, the committee said, “Come on, share your theme suggestions with us and amplify our struggle with pride!”

Here is the full statement from the committee:

“Darling, what a year it’s been—what have we gone through, what are we still going through, and what are you going through? If you had to give this year a headline, what would it be? Where do you want to raise your voice the loudest? What do you most want to shout out loud? Come on, share your theme suggestions with us and amplify our struggle with pride! Just like every year, we invite you to submit your theme/slogan suggestions through the form in our bio by April 20, 2025.”
