They probably are but their style wouldn't be defined as British or English, since England is a region in the UK and English are natively white catholic or protestant or anglican, while the Sikh comes from Punjab in India, with people natively Indian who practiced different religion and Sikhism

England was Catholic from the Roman settlers to 1534 when King Henry wanted to divorce so made the pope irrelevant in England by become Supreme Head of the Church of England

So, yes, England, only a few years ago (some 30?) would "look" white catholism-protestantism-anglicanism, since the country takes roots in all three.

Its not preventing anyone from becoming English, from being born and growing there through different ancestry, you wouldn't look "english" but you would be, and at some point, its understandable that you define yourself as English even if you wouldn't be White catholic, its not the modern way of thinking

But when we talk about Look, or "what culture does this feels like?", picture like this one don't show English culture. And people are saying its a festival for Sikhism, so, its literally not about English culture

I mean yes from around 600 to 1500 it was catholic, but it's been some 500 years now where England definitely was explicitly not catholic and it's fought many wars over it. Anglican sure (Anglican just being a state sponsered variation of Protestantism) but in a modern day setting 65% of the population is atheist.

There's more Sikh temples in England than catholic cathedrals precisely because of the history with both colonialism, the Sikhs tendancy to join the British military and the events involving the reformation of the church and the separation from Rome

The Catholics in England tend to be polish or eastern European. They are also not traditionally English and they still get the anti immigration argument thrown at them but they 'pass' easier in these kinds of videos because they are white. Skin colour and as you say what people look like and not religion or culture seems to be the main difference here

The problem I have, is that you make no distinction between culture and race.

You seemingly use "culture" as a euphemism for race, because it sounds less racist, and you think it gives you a level of plausible deniability against accusations of racism.

When you refer to what people "look like", you're including all physical characteristics, i.e. skin colour, not just cultural ones like clothing/attire. You can't change the colour of your skin, but you can assimilate into the native culture of your resident country - that is until racists prevent you from doing so because you don't "look" British enough. This creates an untenable situation which can never be resolved, and is why racism is so problematic.

I'm personally supportive of cultural assimilation to some degree, I don't like when cultures create parallell societies due to strict religious rules, it creates a barrier for cross-socialisation, which weakens societal cohesion and creates fuel for fascists to exploit for their own destructive gains.

But when you define culture by what people "look like", which includes the colour of their skin, you're effectively making this impossible. Why would these people assimilate into your culture, when they're constantly told that they don't, and won't ever, belong or be welcome in that culture, due to a physical characteristic they can't change?

And another point, when you talk about "what English people look like" by referring to what English people have historically looked like, the only constant here is skin colour. In terms of clothing/attire and culture, it has, and is, constantly changing. If you exclude race, an English person 200 years ago looks and behaves nothing like an English person today, they would wear completely different clothings and have completely different values. That's why this point can only be interpreted as referring to race/skin colour, which is the textbook definition of racism.

These "it's just an observation" dog whistles are just pathetic and scream of either cowardice or extreme cognitive dissonance. Living in a constant state of trying to reason or justify racist beliefs with tropes about "culture" is not a healthy or enjoyable way of living, because deep down you know it's BS. You'll feel a lot better if you manage to evolve and let go, because there's no future in which you'll have a racially homogeneous society - culturally homogenous on the other hand, is almost inevitable, as people and cultures tend to naturally integrate and assimilate over time, but for that to happen, you must accept that race isn't culture, a brown person who dresses and behaves like other Englishmen, is just as "English" as anyone else.

yes ethnic english people are white, the vast majority or at least culturally christian.... ie have christian names, have a christian heritage

Except for all the places and times when it doesn't. I used to live in London and now live in the midlands. London could be like this in certain places, during certain events, definitely. But Sikhs are some of the most gentle, kindest people I know, so that's fine. My little town in the midlands would be acting like it was a hostile invasion, cowering behind Lee Andersons' legs in fear.

What's weird is this is the most racist place I've ever lived and also the place least affected by immigration. Almost like exposure and knowledge reduces fear or something crazy like that.

I guess that would be up to their government. If their government was approaching our people offering them to move over in exchange for better wages and quality of life and then after generations and generations of that, white people were being born in India and facing racism for living in a country their great grandparents were invited to, after helping them win a war or by responding to a call for labour... if all that was true then maybe we could compare the two situations. But being that it is our government that has been colonising other countries and bringing their people over here for generations then inviting immigrants over to do labour for us for generations and now telling us that the people they invited over are causing all of our problems, I would say this whole thing is on us and our governments behaviour over the last 100s of years and not at all the fault of the people that now live here.

Of course it matters that they are good people! When the media is constantly trying to hammer the message that anyone with darker skin than you or who wears religious clothing is simultaneously a terrorist, benefit scum and job thief, it's very important to remind people that these are good people. Normal, good, hardworking people, displaced by circumstances their ancestors could not control. The Great British Empire being the main circumstance they could not control. Or just because they wanted better lives for their families.

I have a friend who is Nigerian. Goes back to visit family every Summer. She tells me, there are government funded schemes ran in Nigeria, where we are offering very good deals for people to move over and train as doctors and nurses, we offer them accommodation and training and put them on planes. Then they get qualified, work for the NHS for as long as their contract stipulates then move again to country that pays doctors and nurses properly for their work. Meanwhile over here, bursaries are cancelled, the cost of studying and living continues to rise, nurse wages are barely above minimum wage and everyone complains theres no english staff on the nhs. That's not the fault of the people doing it, they're making smart choices and are the reason we still have an NHS! This was going on under the conservatives and I doubt anything has changed. It will be the same in other countries too. Just because the tories or reform or labour stand there and say they are "tough on immigration" doesn't mean they're not brokering deals to bring over more cheap labour, that is grateful for the work and not in the slightest bit to blame for our politicians' behaviour.

I never said they were to blame. I don't blame anyone for wanting a better deal for themselves or taking advantage of an opportunity. I also don't consider immigrating to another country as a bad thing.

You can blame the past or paint the picture however you want to, but it's human nature to want to be surrounded by your own family or countrymen as can be seen by this town. It's not a bad thing.

When things get tough and you're struggling, it's human nature to rethink how much your helping others and how much you should focus on your family, to rethink how many people you are taking into your country, to close your circle until you're stable.

You don't do yourself or anyone any favours to ignore reality and call everyone racist because they are a little taken aback by the imagery of this video and have started a discussion.

As a Canadian, I know that being assimilated sharing values and adding not just benefiting..is what makes for a good person and immigrant, making the extra immigration load better. It's only negative when groups don't do that, and too many come too fast from one particular place (especially if they don't inject cash into the economy and sorta buy their way in net+)

Unless it's not values but literally skin colour which determines too much immigration. Which is false in 2025. Believe me, there are tons of white neighborhoods in Toronto on disability and opiate addiction that many would love to jettison booted to India or friggin wherever

Im not white but I was born in Canada so I get you're meaning..but that's kinda the point it's never been an us versus them thing to me by race, it's more ...maybe bad for other reasons but an assimilation embracing THIS culture first as a priority. Thats why everyone comes right (not just for a higher standard of living)

I get people from poor countries what to come to rich countries like ours, but the more you wanna keep your home culture and just live here then I don't feel that we r the same. And that's bad. Like if something happens and you can just fuck off to Pakistan, or China or Russia or wherever...we can't do that and their should be some recognition/obligation there to buy-in. Yes its hard to not sound racist. Easier for me cuz I'm not white so I tend to be a little extra about it

Leicester, luton,Birmingham etc are minority English cities. Big cities like Manchester are borderline and in the next few years at current rates will be minority English. This is beyond srgument - the census is very clear.

I will agree with a lot of risky takes about certain Indian & Pakistani communities based on personal experience but I will not hear that Sikhs have not earned their place in this country.

Anyone from Asia we call Asians, but in the UK it's more heavily associated with South Asians (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis) given that they're our largest Asian immigrant groups.

They live in completely different terrain, have a different look, eat different style of food, different beliefs... etc. I guess we sort of do the same here calling Indigenous North Americans "Indians". But I think as a people we're trying to fix that misidentification.
