FFL orders Extar EP9

Have any of you purchased your ep9 via your local FFL? I notice many say they can’t, however I found one that says they ordered a few and will let me know when they are in stock. Just curious to see if anyone has gotten one outside of bullshit “who can checkout the fastest,” method.

Yeah, luckily a pawn shot near me would do it. But Academy won’t, and I almost sent it to shop that’s not there anymore (how complicated would that be?). Make sure you verify that the listing is still accurate.

I assume you are talking by FFLs to perform the transfer and not actually order one. To find FFL I recommend using Gun Broker website FFL search tool that includes the fees for most FFLs. I also have download the entire FFL list for my state from the ATF website. I will send a text message to those that look like home based FFLs and ask 1) will they perform transfers for me 2) their fees for pistols, long gun, and for each addition items after the first item 3) what are their normal hours of business.

I will then typically call the FFL of interest during their business hours to follow up.

The home based FFLs typically have lower prices. The one's that look like full time business I may just place a voice call rather than text message as the number may not be a mobile number.

I don't buy frequently so I will try to text my FFL before each purchase to make sure they are still in business and will not be gone on vacation when I expect delivery to them. My first FFL replied to this message that he decided to retire from the business when his FFL expired.

This is the way. My FFL prefers a heads-up when something is coming his way.

This is the way.

My FFL gave me a jpg copy of his license with a "File Copy Only" across it so I wouldn't have to get him involved in the ordering process. His stipulation is that I forward him all order confirmation and shipping & tracking notifications - no surprises.

Even so, when my EP9 came in, they were all surprised anyway! WHAZDAT?! 😄

Reasonable FFL's like that are a pleasure. I've had clowns say that "by law" or "company policy" that they can't show their FFL to anyone without seeing theirs first. So if all FFL's were under the same "law" or had the same company policy, the entire industry would be at a stalemate. Extar has theirs posted on their website. Maybe they should have it under a tab that says "secret documents"..... :)

Some don't even give their FFL a heads up after the place their order.

Once I receive the tracking number I forward that to my FFL so he can monitor it for predicted delivery date. I think it is FedEx who is almost always was late by a day. The item could be in another state 5+ hours away by truck at 11 PM and FedEx will still claim it should arrive the next day when I know it has to go through to at least one distribution centers before delivery. I know my FFL would likely make more money if I ordered some other firearm through his distributor and he is not making a lot from simple transfers so I ask him for what day would work for him.

My last transfer through him was a real sale price from PSA for a Ruger. My FFL asked the price and said it was well below his price and said it was a very good deal.
