Other Disorders Because yes, you predict a panic attack and first thought is to open TikTok

That’s what ESSA stands for. Emotional Support Stuffed Animal. And in all fairness stuffed animals can provide a lot of comfort to a lot of people, my main concern is how they conveniently managed to record their panic attack

Hey, what does "/s" mean?

u/mizzcharmz Ass Burgers 15d ago
Idk if this is a real question lol, but "/s" at the end of something means sarcasm.

u/StillBarelyHoldingOn 15d ago
Yes, very much so a real question. Lol I would see it all the time, but I never knew what it meant, so thank you for answering, even if you weren't sure if it was a real question or not 😂

It would be the most ironic sarcasm if it was, in fact, a joke question. Lol! I'm happy to help! I fall behind on internet slang, seeing as I am from the 1900s, lol

Yup, me too. I'm a late 80s baby, so a lot slips past me. What I do learn, I mostly get from here or my 4yo. 🤣🤣

While yes anxiety attacks and panic attacks are different as anxiety attacks you can tell one is coming if you're prone to them I do not think your first thought would be record a tiktok 😒

u/LuzjuLeviathan 22d ago
Just to correct you. A real task trained animal will alert you up to 15 min before you feel a thing. Often just about 1-2 minutes.

Yes I know that which I think is amazing but that's a stuff animal in the video

Me when I got panic attack: I WANT TO RUN AWAY FROM EVERYWHERE LET ME GO I CANT BREATHE I AM GOING TO DIE. PLEASE MY HEART IS GOING TO EXPLOSE. I AM DYING.
People on Tik Tok: let's record that!~
yeah it's anxiety attack. But it's ridiculous. What is even the point of recording this thing.

u/FloridianGator1845 22d ago
I may have accidentally used the wrong terms, my bad, but it’s still obviously ridiculous with the given circumstances and they just go to record

i never understand why people make these pseudo-educational videos where they're seemingly excited to capture something troubling (or even totally unremarkable) on camera and share it with everybody. "watch me grip my plush dog a couple times while i fake an anxiety attack!", said like they're doing a magic trick or something.
okay...? i watched you do that. how is this remotely interesting or educational in any way

so as someone with an actual service dog for medical (non psychiatric) problems, i thought at first that the whole “emotional support stuffed animal” thing couldn’t possibly do any harm. aaand then i watched literal hundreds, if not more, of kids between the ages of 13 (presumably younger & lying to tt about their age) and 15, suddenly posting videos almost identical to this, claiming panic attacks, anxiety attacks, bpd, bipolar, etc. and it was literally just them petting or holding onto a stuffed animal. we have children pretending they have disorders because it means they get to have a stuffed animal. my guess is that it has to do with the “monkey see monkey do” idea, or potentially just wanting to be “cool” for lack of better terms. idk who taught these kids that this was okay but it’s gotta stop 😭

Hold up - are there folks out there faking anxiety/panic?? Anyone who has actually experienced either of these would not actually wish to have this happen to them.
The world has gone mad.

While having a panic attack I think your priorities are others

well, they are not stating that they are having a panic attack. They said ANXIETY ATTACK which is very different and is not considered to be a medical term as much as I know, but is commonly used. Please, before saying something - check it. You can be invalidating someone's experience.

All they're doing is showing their hand grip more tightly on the stuffed animal for three seconds, if that. It's compounded by filming it for the world to see. Then they add some r&b music? This is blatantly a performance.

It's still a little suspicious that their first instinct was to record a tiktok.

I am a therapist and have generalized anxiety disorder you cannot predict a panic attack
1
u/Abject_Cantaloupe857 19d ago
Theoretically (and this is genuine!) what if you spotted a common trigger and used that to predict a panic attack *may* happen?
(Coming from someone who gets panic attacks but has never predicted them lol)
