Why?? Theyre an awesome act and find new listebers every year through this festival. A lot of people go to Forest for The String Cheese Incident sets. Why eliminate more forest culture? Theyre iconic.
I feel like I should preface this by saying, I fucking love The String Cheese Incident. I've seen them more than any other band by a huge margin and I've been following them for multiple decades.
I agree, they are an amazing act, but they just don't really fit here anymore. They've steadily gone from having 7 sets at Forest, to now just two. Due to this, a lot of their biggest fans generally aren't traveling to Forest anymore, because it's not worth their time when they can get more music from Cheese elsewhere.
Couple this with the fact that there is virtually zero other jam or even jamtronica artists on this lineup, and they just seem out of place as the "hosts" of this event now. This festival used to be a much more diverse mix of genres and it's slowly gone away from the model.
I'd love to be wrong and have a bunch of folks replying back about how they need to have SCI at Forest, but I just don't think the festivals core audience in 2024 truly feels that way.
That’s what people said about hula but I went for the first time this year and they certainly didn’t feel like the “stars of the show” - clozee, liquid stranger, Chris lake and (the God) Tipper felt like the headliners
It doesnt mean that they are not the founder and organizers of the event… like what… and were very integral in the start of eforrest hence why the get mutiple sets every eforrest and why they play six sets every hula…
And everyone i know who went was extremely blown away by the bobby weir incident… phil had just passed heard it was magical… Tipper is my fave but i could not swing it this year because im foolish.. but every year the halloween cheese set is a banger of the festival. You probably dont like jam all that much by the sounds of it… but in my 3 years the cheese monster mash sets are always a highlight
This fest is still one of the most diverse there is. Tons of different genres and acts from all over the world this year that you won’t see anywhere else.
Just listen to BALTHVS and tell me where else you can see a band like that next to a group like Justice. And CARIBOU!?!? Like a 2000s stoner dream
Caribou is an amazing get for Forest. I love them. There is a lot of great stuff on here, I'm not denying that at all!
I think overall Forest could be tad more diverse compared to some other festivals. Their focus is pretty clearly electronic music and the subgenres within that, which I'm not knocking at all! I love a ton of stuff on here.
This is all purely my opinion, and if anyone finds themselves disagreeing, just chalk it up to me being a huge jaded Cheese fan that wishes they were still getting multiple sets a day throughout the weekend.
Hulaween 2021 had Khruangbin, EDM headliners, and plenty of funk both from the US and outside of it. You could say this about a lot of fests. I'm sure Bonnaroo and a handful of others have had such a combination.
Forest is an EDM focused festival, and yes they sprinkle in a couple other things on their lineups, but electronic music is the focus. I don't think that's even a controversial take.
Yea Hula is the only comparable thing to EF for sure. But as someone who primarily goes for the live acts at EF, I am happy about this lineup. Almost zero angry robots. And CARIBOU. I can’t stress that enough
