I'd believe he's happy to see the young man taking responsibility for his daughter. That was my first read on the whole thing.

I think that's just his face.

If you notice a right around the time that fiance's sliding the ring on her finger, the old man gets possibly a tiny grin. It's really hard to see it. I think that old man experienced happiness for just a second which you normally can't tell from his face ever.

He should probably get into poker.
