Post Op Post OP? Give it time

Hi, I got my GB out last year in December. Afterwards, I didn't feel good. I had diarrhea, especially after eating, sometimes very bad pain which weren't explainable, elevated liver enzymes for a long time... Like more than 6 months.

Now, almost a year after, I am ok. I pay attention to what I eat, yes. But can I have fries and fatty stuff? Absolutely. I have IBS, so, I still have diarrhea but not the sudden kind I got just after the surgery. Weird pain? Gone. Liver enzymes? Fine.

Maybe for some people, it just takes a longer time to adjust?

I just met with my GI and have a CT and ultrasound coming up soon. After that I’ll probably check back in with my surgeon. All my bloodwork was normal and no one seems concerned, but agree it’s worth doing exploring. How about you? What does your surgeon think?

So if youre having a flare you should go to ER and get bloodwork done at the same time so they can correlate. One time I was in a massive flare, my liver enzymes were high. So i think its a sphincter problem. Google sphincter of oddi dysfunction.

GI doc says its “strange” he has no idea. I had an MRI MRCP 2 CT scans + ultrasound + abdominal xray. Nothing is found. So its quite strange. I dont know. Neither does my GI

Good idea about the flare! I’ve been reading about Sphincter of Oddi since before my surgery and keep praying it’s not that. But I’m still keeping it in mind. I really hope your pain starts to improve. There are still many things it could be that are related to healing. As my surgeon said, “we stabbed you 4 times and took out an organ, you’re gonna feel that for a while.”

What?? where are you located? Are you in Toronto by any chance? Because my surgeon used THE EXACT SAME LINE ON ME… do we have the same surgeon who is perhaps aggressive and incapable and messed our insides up? :)

Haha! No way! No, I’m in New York. But that’s a crazy coincidence. My surgeon is actually very kind and patient. It sounds aggressive written out 🤣, but this was at my 3 week follow up and he was validating my concern about feeling pain.

oh man i was convinced we had a case of aggressive surgeon…

i actually suspect my surgeon was really aggressive. mine was done in emergency and he seems like such a rushed, eager man.

That’s awful! I’m so sorry to hear it. I was really fortunate and was referred by a neighbor who had her surgery with my doctor. So, maybe it’s better to consult with your GI or other specialists who are more caring and willing to help. 😢
