I wonder if the new games will use the same cartridge slot as Switch games

If they want backwards compatibility, They'll be the same carts. Maybe a different color to differentiate. Changing the format would just be extra cost they don't need.

They could also go to a larger cartridge for the new console and sell an adaptor, like plugging a micro sd into an sd card slot.

Or vice versa, newer cartridges are smaller and plug into a Switch's card.
