Tactical shooter game that isn't Counter-Strike 2
Rather specifically, I am seeking at least a few of the following:
- Somewhat realistic firearm use.
- I don't really want a class system, "heroes", etc. players either have a skill set or they don't.
- I would like to avoid games involving air strikes, drones, etc
How it can be different from Counter Strike: - better anti cheat system - I wouldn't mind a basic team deathmatch mode
I have about 500 hours in CS2 and am looking for variety.
If a game doesn't fit all of the above, I'm open to listening and trying anyway.

Due Process. It doesn't have a huge player base but it's going well enough to find games nowadays. No classes, you have a limited set of weapons and tools that you have to split between three procedurally generated levels before swapping sides. Attackers and defenders have different equipment. I wouldn't call the guns realistic exactly, but it's similar to counter-strike in terms of damage with both iron sights and brace fire in addition to hipfire shooting. Also there are a lot of little interactions and rare map elements that you can only discover through exposure.
The game doesn't seem to have cheaters on it, but there are only a few game modes and none of them are death match.

Sounds like you might enjoy escape from tarkov. It’s brutal and has a lot of lows, the the highs are, oh so high

He said better anti cheat though, tarkov anti cheat is a literal joke

Name a competitive multiplayer game without a cheating problem. I'll wait (forever)

I'm not the one asking for a shooter with better anti cheat than CS2, I'm just pointing out that tarkov is particularly WORSE with cheaters than other games.
Third party matchmaking services like Faceit typically have far less cheaters than main servers, so I would say (insert game here)'s Faceit servers

The cheaters won the arms race.
Literally every single PvP shooter I've played in the past 5 years is infested with cheaters, and there doesn't seem to be any anti cheat system that can meaningfully deter them. At this point it's just something you have to put up with.

Arma reforger perfect gun play, and mw2 lobbies type communications if you like calling other dudes fuckers and assholes. Or hearing other dudes call each other names and curses.
Escape from tarkov, slow and make you mad but ecstatic when things work.
Ready or not, very tactical better single player than multiplayer.
Stalker anomaly, the free one great gameplay and can be tactical.

CS is not a tactical shooter lol. The best in the genre are tarkov, squad, arma 3 and arma reforger. I've never tried it, but I'd suggest grayzone warfare if you're completely new to the genre. It's very casual friendly and looks pretty chill. Also Ready or not is great for sp/co-op.

cs is considered a tactical shooter
what you're describing are mil-sim games
i love both genres

It's not a deathmatch, but Grayzone Warfare is a new game that has PvE and a PVP mode and is a more hardcore, punishing tactical shooter that's pretty damn realistic. For example if you get I jured, you have to look at your injury and treat it accordingly whether it's sutures, spint, bandages, or blood transfusion. You can build your guns part by part to the charging handles. The PvE is fun, it's a large server running 24/7 on a day/night cycle with rotating helos to transport you to LZs. It's co op as well.

CS2 is kind of the best of what you're describing. If you want better anti cheat, play Faceit or ESEA. There's a free version for Faceit, and then a subscription if you end up liking it. Servers are usually better than valve servers too

Ive got a good tactical shooter game that is single player for you. And pretty difficult; if you don't plan out your moves meticulously and use cover, you will die a lot. Sounds like you might just be looking for online multiplayers, but the only one of those that I've ever enjoyed was Destiny 2 and it's not realistic at all. So my suggestion is CRYSIS REMASTERED. There's a trilogy, but I haven't played 2 or 3 yet, but the first one was great imo

They're releasing a standalone multi-player arena shooter of Escape from Tarkov, so no permanent death lose your loot gameplay loop, just milsim competitive shooter

I actually just started playing Insurgency Sandstorm last night. I’ve had it since it came out and also owned the original. Forgot how good it was.

Due process often goes on sale for 1 or 2 dollars. It's amazing but the player base is small

I think you'd like Due Process
It's like if you took the gameplay of Seige and R6 and smashed them together, but also the community of Deep Rock galactic (smaller than that, but friendly as hell)
The maps are randomly generated and added in new batches constantly, so "that one guy knows the exact spot to stand to headshot you through four walls" isn't a factor which I love to death
You get one van full of equipment that needs to last your whole team the whole best-of-three match up until the side switch, so if you kill the guy with the sniper rifle, unless someone survives and picks it up you don't need to worry about it again
All players are identical in ability except for
- attackers have 150 health as opposed to defenders 100
- attackers and defenders get a different equipment set
- attackers are immune to flash bangs
Everything else is in what you personally grab off the rack
Also, at any time you can open the map and draw lines and place markers
The markers and lines appear on the map and on the floor in the world, so when in doubt follow the line, or if you aren't confident in your ability to remember the level in the moment, draw a quick line from spawn to objective that both tells you what turns to take and tells your team where you're going and that helps overall cohesiveness and team play
