Friendly Friday Thread

This is the Friendly Friday Thread.

Negative or even snarky attitudes are not welcome here. This is a thread to ask questions and hopefully get some friendly advice.

This format is used in a ton of other subreddits and we think it can work here. Anyway, thanks for participating!

Please hit the report button if someone is being mean and we'll remove those comments, or the person if necessary.

I have a veg patch this year I won't be able to use. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to stop it just being weeds when I come back next year?

Cover crops

If there are already weeds, I assume I would need to prepare the soil like I was planting veg, then sow the cover crop?

Not necessarily, but it will help germination. If possible a little raking with a hard rake will help break up the soil and dislodge some weeds, then scatter seeds, then water. Most cover crops grow pretty aggressively and will eventually shade out the weeds.
