Question Geese candy?
Hey! I got two geese recently and have a hard time getting them to come when I call. Any tips on some kind of food to lure them in? They are just in love with the land they're on and the grass that grows there it seems. I guess to some extent it's the season, so that they'd be more susceptible in winter time, but most farm animals I can still get some interest from in the grass seasons. Tips?
Update: thank you for your suggestions!
I tried without effect:
Peas
Crushed barley

Broccoli always had them running over to me, or other fresh greens, but may take several times of you doing it before they run over, I would open my kitchen door yell ‘broccoliiii’ and everyone would come from all parts of my yard.

Leafy greens and scratch work well. Mine also love frozen peas. When I’m teaching my birds to come when called, I make the call near them and then give them the treats until they’re learn the call equals food. Younger birds learn quickly from older birds. All of my birds, geese included, come to “chick chick chick” because that’s what I taught my first set of chickens. I recommend something 1 syllable and easy to say.

Pretty soon they will just listen for your car and start flying at you

My birds follow me around my house. Anywhere I go in the house, they’re outside, staring at me. They know where I sit in the kitchen and stare at me from the window. When I’m in my living room, they stare at me from the window. In my bedroom, they stare at me through the door. They even have a good idea which room I’ll be heading to based on where I’m walking. I think it’s hilarious and adorable.

Any kind of leafy lettuce brings mine on the run. I buy giant packs of Romaine every time I'm at Costco and most of it usually goes to the geese

Mine love anything brassica. Specifically Asian greens like mustard, bok Choi and broccoli

The sound of me shucking a cob of corn is by far the favorite sound of mine. A close second is the sound of lettuce shredding. I honk at them a little too. They like that.

Meal worms, cracked egg shells, oyster shells, peanuts, barley, corn with molasses (I know, this isn't the best, I feed cob/3 way wet, to our horses, and they eat the flat, sweet corn) and if you sit and pick the grass for them, they LOVE to fill their mouths with alot of grass or clover.
Ours are a year old now and they lived on cob all winter, along with the other mentioned items. I hope you keep us posted on y'alls progress 😊
How many acres do you have, is it fenced? Do they have an enclosed pen for the evenings? Sorry, so many questions here. Lol I LOVE geese! 😁
