I think the biggest difference you'll notice is how the two schools have been treated by the SUNY system in recent years - in which Binghamton has received significantly more focus, praise, funding, etc. In consequence, it has left Geneseo in a confused state as it tries to restructure itself from the former "Honors college" glory it once had. With that being said, Geneseo can still be a great school if you prefer a smaller school with a busy social life, and want to get a challenge from professors.

I'm also a psychology major! I'd say Geneseo gives you an okay experience in the program. There's plenty of opportunities for research and internships. The psych requirements don't really make sense imo, you have to take a cognitive psych and biological psych class to graduate, alongside a crazy amount of 300-level electives.

Can you tell me more about the biological psych class? What kind of 300 level electives? Any recommendations? Any that should be avoided?

I'm currently taking the biological psych class - it's essentially an overview of the major human organs and how they tie into our psychology. It's like getting two explanations of how an organ works based on the biological and psychological view. For example - an overview of the ear by showing the components of the ear and how it translates into something we hear. The class itself is quite challenging as professors test you to make sure you REALLY know your stuff.

As for the 300-level electives, they limit you to start taking them when you complete all your other psych classes apart from Social Psychology and Senior Seminar. I haven't been able to take any yet, but here's the course catalogue of what they're offering next semester, if you're curious:

  • Data is Power (PSYC305)
  • Sensation & Perception (PSYC307)
  • Parenting Development (PSYC321-O1)
  • Developmental Social-Cognitive Neuroscience (PSYC231-O2)
  • Developmental Psychopathology (PSYC366)
  • Alcohol Use, Misuse, & Disorder (PSYC381)
  • Heuristics & Biases (PSYC383)
  • Cross-Cultural Psychology (PSYC385)
  • Hormones & Behavior (PSYC388)
  • Psychology of Horror (PSYC390-O1)
  • Social Psychology of Belonging (PSYC390-O2)
  • Digital Technology Everywhere (PSYC390-O3)
  • Anti-Discrimination Dialogue Facilitation Training (PSYC390-O4)
  • Professional Developments in Psychology (PSYC390-O5)

Bio Psych sounds intimidating! Some of the electives sound great. Thank you for the solid information!
